Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.
So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.”
A week later his disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
Thomas said to him, “My Lord and My God!”
Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
JOHN 20:24-29 (NIV)
Thomas’ belief was to see is to believe. Unless he will see the Lord himself, he will not believe what the other disciples have told him.
If you were in Thomas’ situation, would you do the same? Would you doubt?
In life, we always want to see proof, evidences, and other things to prove that what someone says is right. But in God, it is not like that. It is different.
“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”- John 20:29
We don’t have to see him face to face in order for us to believe that He is real, that he exists. All we need to do is to breathe, and acknowledge that he exists. He is everywhere. He is in the food we eat, in the free air we breathed, in the clean water we drink, in the house we live, and most of all, He is in our hearts.
God is everywhere. He will be with us wherever we go.
Life’s troubles often lead to wavering of our faith in him. There are days when bad things keep on happening that we end up having a doubtful heart. Some days, it becomes too easy for us to doubt than to believe because of the entire situation that comes our way. We doubt if our situation will ever change.
But f course it will!
For with God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26) So, Stop doubting and believe! (John 20:28)
When Thomas doubted, Jesus showed himself to change Thomas’ heart. Just like us, when we are in doubt, Jesus will always show himself to change our belief. He will help us to strengthen the FAITH that had been weakened by doubt. He will rescue us! He will always be there to save us from all the doubts and from whatever it is.
Praise be to our Mighty Saviour forever and always!
JOHN 20:31 (NIV) "But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name."
May you stop doubting and believe. God’s peace is with you always!-BELL
