One Week Earlier -
"Long day today, sweetie?" My mother smiled kindly as she sat at the dining table. Stacks of files, two empty teacups, and loose papers were laid out on the table. Placing my bag on a seat, I narrowed my eyes at her. On any given day, she would have insulted me about my outfit. But today, she grinned warmly at me.
Sighing, I rolled my eyes. "What did you do?" I knew she was only this nice whenever she had done something she shouldn't had done or she wants something.
"Why do you assume I did something?" She questioned and folded her hands in front of her.
"Because you're my mother. I know you better than you know yourself." I picked up a file and flipped through. My thumb letting go of the side of the paper each time.
Snatching the file out from my hands, she slid it back onto the table. "I arranged your marriage for you."
"Marriage?! I didn't know people still did arranged marriages!" Slamming my hands on the wooden table, the empty teacups clunk against one another. With one swift movement, my mom stopped the dancing cups and inhaled sharply.
"There are people who still do it. You're getting married and it's final." She paused, "I only want what's best for you. You'll like him, I promise."
"I haven't even met him, whoever he is. Plus, you know I recently got out of a relationship so why are you pushing this on me?" I crossed my arms and leaned against the wall.
I watched her roll her eyes, "Recently? That was two years ago."
"But it also lasted for a long time." I stared down at my feet.
Without me having to look up, I knew my mother was shaking her head. She never liked my last boyfriend or any one of my boyfriends.
"I know you've been going to those speed dating things and that's not going to help you find a decent guy. All those men want is to get with you and it's dangerous." My mother carried on.
"So you arranged a marriage for me? Mother, I'm only 20! Too young to settle down." I shot my head back up and her eyes pierced through me.
"Too old to make anymore relationship mistakes either. It's better if you're tied down now, you won't have to worry about finding someone later on in life when you're all shriveled up like a prune. Besides, it's not all bad marrying early. I was engaged to your father when I was 16 and I had you when I was your age." My mother smiled proudly.
It was my turn to roll my eyes, "Yeah but look where father is now, not here." My mother's smile dropped and a frown came upon her still fresh face.
"Don't speak bad of your father. He left, so what? I was just stating a fact of what happened to me." Mother always became defensive whenever anyone spoke crap about father, like she still cares him or something.
"Okay fine. Who's this guy that won you over so easily? You never like any guys I introduce to you, not even my friends." I got off the wall and massaged her shoulders.
Relaxing in my grip, she smirked to herself. "His name is Oh Sehun, you'll meet him soon actually. I just finished a talk with his mother, who was one of my closest friends in grade school, and she went to go get him."
"What's so good about him?" I leaned against the table.
"His family owns a gigantic marketing company and he's next in line for president-"
"Oh so that's why you like him, because he's rich." I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder.
My mother held onto my bag strap. "I'm not done. He's also very handsome, tall, pretty masculine, and super charming."
