Chapter 9-

Hadley's POV:

We walked back into the restaurant holding hands, I couldn't help but smile seeing as my hand was a lot bigger then hers. When we got back to the table I could see Hunter glaring at our hands, he just needs to get over the fact that I'm in love with her. I planned to tell her that before I dropped her off at her house tonight.

"What are you getting Had?" Liz asks not looking up from her menu.

"Oh I'm I guess a steak, what about you?" I ask.

"Gumbo. Duh." She laughs,

"Oh right, you seriously love their gumbo huh?" I joke.

"Yes! I love it more then anything!" She smiles.

"Even more then me?!" I gasp.

"Yes." She smirks.

"That's not fair." I say poking her. She looks up at me and fakes a gasp.

"Did you just poke me?" She says.

"Yes I did. What are you gonna do about it?" I laugh.

"Tell your mommy!" She said before calling my moms name.

"Mrs Lynette! Hadley won't stop poking me." She jokes.

"Hadley! Leave the poor girl alone." My mom laughs. I look at Liz and shoot her a smirk before looking at my mom again.

"Alright mom, so where's dad at?" I ask.

"Oh he said he had some meeting with work." She says.

"Ohh." I say looking at my menu again.

"So Elizabeth, how are you?" Hunter asks.

"Oh I'm pretty good, how about you?" She answers. Her and Hunter start going into a conversation so I got up and told my mom that I'd be back. I walked outside to get some air and saw a pack of guys from school walking towards me.

"Er hey guys?" I say to them.

"Hey Hadley!" A girl with them smiles and waves at me.

"Hi?" I say confused.

"Is Hunter here?" The tallest guy asks.

"Uh yea he's inside eating with my mom and Elizabeth, why?" I ask.

"Can you go and get him? We need to have a chat with him." Another one says. I look at them for a second until I realized this was the group of kids at school that were always high and drunk. I looked back at the restaurant and told them I'd be back. I walked back inside and saw Hunter making Liz blush. I walked up to the table and sat down.

"Hey Hunter, the school junkies are outside looking for you." I say sipping my drink. He looks at me shocked before he nods slowly and gets up. I look at Liz as he walks away and take her hand.

"Hadley? Can you go out there and make sure your brother stays safe." My mom asks sweetly.

"Sure momma." I say getting up. Elizabeth grabs my arm before I can walk away.

"What?" I ask.

"I'm coming, that's all." She says putting her purse down.

"Liz stay here, if something happens out there at least I'll know your safe." I say.

"No. I'm coming." She says grabbing my hand and tugging me outside. I sigh and jog a little to be even with her. Once we get outside we don't see Hunter or anyone, we only hear the sound of yelling coming from the side of the place. Liz squeezes my hand tightly before we start walking towards the corner to see what's going on. I stop right before we turn the corner and hold Liz back while I listen.

"I don't have the money for it Jake!" I hear Hunter yell.

"Find the money! If you don't I don't see how the women in your life will be ok." Jake yells back.

"Leave my mother and Liz out of this!" Hunter yells. Right when I hear my mom and Liz's name come out his mouth I tense up, I feel Liz start to back up a little. I turn around and look at her, giving her a look to say that she's safe with me. I slowly emerge out from the corner and walk over to the group of people, Liz close behind me.

"Is everything alright?" I ask.

"Everything's fine Hadley, go back to dinner." Hunter says not looking at me. Liz stands next to me and says something that shocks pretty much everyone.

"Hunter get you ass over here. I don't have time for you to get screwed over by a bunch of fucking junkies. If you don't come you get get you ass beat by them and I won't care one bit. I'm counting to 10. If you can't decide then, I'll choose for you." Liz says sternly. I look at her with wide eyes seeing as she's never cursed in her life. All the junkies look at her like she's a piece of meat then look at Hunter.

"So what's it gonna be?" A guy asks. Hunter looks at Liz and sighs as he sticks his hand into his pocket and pulls out a large amount of cash.

"That's all I got on me, I'll play the remainder when I can." He says walking over to us. I look at Hunter and glare before I look at Liz and see she's doing the same.

"Liz I-" he starts.

"Don't even. Your just lucky you didn't get your ass beat." She says before taking my hand and walking away.

****After Diner****

We walked back to the car laughing with my mom. She was telling Liz stories from when I was little, and let's just say I could tell I was a handful.

"He would always run around in those little boxers and cape screaming he was superman." She says laughing more.

"Aww I can see him doing that now! I bet you were so cute doing that Had." Liz says laughing.

"Well I am superman, so you probably can see me being him one day." I joke.

"Well it was so nice to meet you! I absolutely would love to go out and eat with you all again." Liz says to my mom.

"Oh of course!" My mom says hugging her.

"Bye Mrs. Lynette!" She says as we walk to the car. Once we got in the car and started driving Liz turned on the radio and started singing along to "Never Say Never" by The Fray.

"Thank you for tonight Had, it was nice." She smiled at me.

"Your welcome!" I say back. Soon we got back to the city and I pulled over at the duck park.

"What are we doing here?" She asks.

"C'mon, let's go walk." I say taking her hand. We start walking in silence, enjoying the night. When we get on top of the bridge I stop and look at her.

"Liz, I need to tell you something, and it could either bring us closer or separate us like twig." I say letting her hand go. She looks at me with concern.

"What is it?" She asks.

"Liz... I-I really like you." I say looking away.

"You like m-me?" She whispers out. I sigh and walk to the side of the bridge.

"Yes." I say.

"Hadley, I-" she starts.

"It's alright I get it, you don't like me the same way. I understand." I cut her off.

"Had-" she starts again.

"No it's alright. Let's just go." I say walking away slowly.

"HADLEY RYAN HAYES! YOU STOP RIGHT THERE!" Liz yells after me.

"What?" I yell back.

"YOU DIDNT LET ME FINISH." She says still yelling.

"Then say it!" I say. She looks at me and walks closer until she's right in front of me.

"You didn't let me finish saying that I like you too." She says smiling. My face lit up like a Christmas tree as I picked her up in my arms and spin her around.

"Liz please do me the honors of being my girlfriend." I whisper. She looks at me for a second until nodding her head yes and smashing her lips into mine.
