"No! Please, not the kits!" a shrill yelp shrieked, making the air dence, her lungs seemed too shallow to catch a breath. A pretty dark brown she cat with creamy brown swirls blocked the way to her kit's, her golden eyes narrowed.
"I won't let you take my kits!" Heather hissed, her claws scraping the ground. The kits behind her shook violently, Their eyes wide. One creamy brown kit pressed closer to his brother, his eyes focused on his mother. An agitated sigh split the air before a large battle scarred tom jumped from the dumpster down to the concrete, his green gaze sharp. Orbs flickered to a dark grey tabby, who's purple eyes eyes shied away from the situation. Skat flicked his tail to him, his eyes narrowing to slits.
"He chose to join the group, and he must pay the price." He spat, his green eyes like broken glass. Colby closed his eyes, shaking his head slowly. Heather snapped her head to the grey toms, her eyes unwavering as she wrapped her tail around the two kits.
"Colby, let's GO." She urged, her voice pleading. The dark tabby Tom that goes by 'Colby' shook his head, his purple eyes sorrowful. He lifted his head slightly, looking at his mate with regretful eyes. Skat's muscles rippled impatiently, a shallow growl escaping his throat. Colby's eyes flickered to the ginger tom but back to his mate, his tail twitching.
"This is the only way to be safe, let them go." He mewed, his eyes shifting to the brown kits behind the mother, not an ounce of remorse traced in his eyes. She snarled, tail lashing. She held his gaze for a moment, gold and purple. Letting out a shaky breath, head lowered to the ground, as if looking for answers. Her head shot back up, eyes unwavering as she glared at Colby then shifting them to the battle scarred tom. She opened her mouth and said three simple words.
"Take me instead." Colby shot up, his pelt rippling.
"Heather please!-"
"Silence!" Skat hissed, his claw studded collar flashing in the light. Colby opened his mouth to protest but shut it, his head bowing. Heather held her chin up high, not wanting to show that she was afraid, But the light tremble that her body gave away told otherwise.
"Bold decision just to save some scraps." He mewed, his voice cold. Her golden eyes flickered, connecting with the tom.
"Their not 'Scraps' Skat." She mewed, her body stiffening.
"Their my kits and i'm willing to die for them." She bit back a snarl and held his eyes. Skat smirked, his green eyes hard. Colby could be seen frowning before he looked away, his eyes narrowing.
"Very well." He snickered and two new cats entered the scene. One was a tall black and white tom with a scar over his eye, his eyes narrowed as he looked at the pretty she cat. "This should be easy." He smirked, licking his muzzle. The tom next to him nodded, his muscles rippling under his brown tabby pelt. Both of them were lashing their tails impatiently, their claws scraping the concrete.
"Kill her." Skat mewed with a bored flick of his paw, casting one last glance at Heather before trotting away from the scene. Heather felt her pelt ripple as she looked over to look at Colby, but he was nowhere to be seen. Her brows furrowed in confusion but an irritated hiss brought her back to reality. She swung her head back, looking at the two toms. Her eyes narrowed and her lips drew back in a snarl. She was about to take a step forward but a slight prod on her back paw make her stop and look back. She looked at her two kits, her eyes welling with tears. She bit back a sob and smiled gently, her tail unwrapping around their frail bodies. Her puffy eyes connected with the dark brown kit that shared her pelt.
"Coffee....take care of Mocha for me, ok Hun?" She said gently, smiling as the small kit nodded his head. The light caramel kit next to him pushed forward. "Where are you going Ma?" He asked, his golden eyes wide. Heather felt her throat tightened as a shaky sigh escaped her mouth.
"I-I'm going away for a bit." She nudged them with her face, Coffee's paws landing on her muzzle, his purple eyes wide.
"When will you be back?" He asked. She opened her mouth to reply but a soft mew interrupted her.
"I'm here for the kits?" Heather turned around, her golden eyes connecting with a round amber pair. Before her stood a russet she-cat, her pretty coat and soft eyes made her eyes narrow.
"I see..." She mumbled, her eyes flickering to the two bored toms to the side of the Russet she-cat. She looked back at her kits and pushed them forward with her tail.
"You two go along with her, i have to finish something here." She mewed, her eyes growing dull. Mocha and Coffee looked at each other before nodding and trotting over to the gentle russet she cat. Heather looked longingly at her kits that were now handed off to a new mother, her jaw clenching.
"What's your name?" Mocha asked, his pale tail flicking. The she cat smiled gently, her amber eyes vibrant.
"Scarlet~" She murrowed and ushered the kits along, casting a sympathetic look at Heather before turning the corner, the kits gone. Her brown pelt rippled and her mouth gaped open, tears staining her cheeks. She let out a sorrowful whimper, her head bowing.
The tall black and white tom smirked and started walking towards her, his companion close behind.
"Shall we finish this?"
