What we all want in life is to travel, fall in love, and be happy. Little did I know that I was getting it all this summer. It was 7:30 pm and my family arriving in to go stay with my Granny for the summer. I was excited but, it was sad that I wouldn't see my friends before they all went to college. I was listening to some All Time Low because who doesn't love them? Stupid people that's who.
"Are we there yet?" Ollie asked, bored out of his mind. I understand though it was a 12 hour drive.
"We will be in at Granny's in 15 minutes." Mama said. I didn't mind the car ride if I'm honest. Car rides are my second favorite thing next to music and that's because I can listen to as much music as I can in the time to drive to wherever we go. I bobbed my head to the song 'break your little heart' slightly dancing in my seat. I dance like I'm making a Musical.ly it's embarrassing but I don't really care.
We finally got to Granny's house and I was more than happy to stretch my legs. I got out of the car before it even stopped and stretched my whole body. I was aching so bad from sitting for 12 hours straight. When we got food we went through the drive through to save time.
My Granny Flora came out and her dog Pumpkin followed and jumped on me, nearly knocking me over. Pumpkin is a 4 year old golden retriever. She's beautiful and super sweet but, she's very playful. My Granny walked over to me and gave me the biggest hug.
"There's my cuddles." She said, using the nickname she gave me when I was 2. When I was 2 I use to cuddle with my Granny until I fell asleep and then she would put me to bed and lay next to me and hold my hand all night. I miss those days because she was my best friend now I feel like we've pulled away from each other but, I love her nonetheless.
"Oh and there's my bubba." She said hugging Ollie. I saw in Ollie's eyes he wanted to cry. We haven't seen Granny Flora in 3 years. He cried every time they hung up the phone together. I found it sweet. I cried to when I would hang up with her. I'm happy to be here with her for a while.
She hugged my mom and dad before we all grabbed our stuff and headed inside for some food and lemonade. Granny makes some amazing lemonade. We all put our stuff in our rooms and sat down at the dining room table to eat and talk.
"You know Evan my next door neighbor has a son around your age. You should make friends with him. He seems nice." Granny said. I shrugged my shoulder and stuffed more salad in my mouth so I didn't have to respond. I'm not a social butterfly. But last time I was here I was very social. A lot changes in 3 years.
"Yeah Ev." My mother said. "You could use some friends down here. You know to go hang out and stuff. You need to be social." I shrugged once again. Another reason I don't socialize is because I'm afraid I annoy people and no one even likes me.
"Well think about it cuddles. Because he seems like a very sweet boy." She said. We all finished eating and I excused myself from the table. I ran to my room and grabbed my skateboard. I skated up and down the road listening to my music. Now I had Greenday playing. I did a few tricks here and there but I was really just skating up and down the street.
I should have paid attention to where I was going because next thing I knew I had ran into someone. I felt my body hit the pavement and I scraped my elbow.
"Son of a bitch." I hissed, holding onto my bleeding elbow. I took my head phones out and heard someone say they were sorry over and over again. I looked up and saw him. The cutest guy I have ever seen in my life. He had brown hair that was kind long and brown eyes that were so deep I couldn't look away."Are you okay?" The boy said, snapping me out of my trance. I nodded and looked at my elbow. It was bleeding a lot and I knew it was a bad scrape. I must have hit the ground really hard. "Good thing you had a helmet on huh? But seriously though are you okay?" I chuckled at his comment and finally stood up.
"Yeah I'm fine. Just need to bandage my elbow. I've had worse falls than that." I said, laughing. He smiled and looked down. I wonder why he looked down to smile? "Anyway, no biggie I will just go back to my grandma's and clean up." I pointed to my granny's house and he smiled, once again looking down.
"Wow that's awesome. I live right next door." He said pointing to the house next to Granny's. I looked at him shocked.
"You're Mason?" I asked. He looked at me weird but smiled, once again looking down. "I was avoiding meeting you but you seem cool.I'm Evan by the way." I lightly punched him in the arm.
"You were avoiding meeting me?" He said, he sounded a little hurt by my words. "Did you assume I would be a freak?" Now I feel bad. Way to go Evan.
"Oh! No, no, no. I meant that my gram told me to make friends but, I have anxiety." I said, I knew this was gonna happen but, her comes the rambling. "See last time I was here was 3 years ago and I was very social. Now I am like 'ew I don't like people.' But now that I've met you I wanna see more of you. That came out wrong I mean I want to see you more often. Cause you're cute I mean cool." I sighed after I rambled about why I didn't mean to offend him and she laughed looking at the ground. Does he find the ground interesting?
"Hey I get it." He said. "I get anxious sometimes too. But you just have to think of its worth doing. Like when I want food and I go to a drive through I get anxious. I think what's the benefit of this? Chicken nuggets? And I know it's worth it so I do it. You know what I mean?" I nodded and smiled. This kid was pretty smart.
"I never thought of that." I said, smiling and kinda blushing. "That's like seeing things in a whole new light." I was about to ask Mason for his number when my dad called for me to go inside and spend time with Granny before she went to bed. I smiled at Mason and he gave me a half a smile and didn't look at the ground.
"Well I guess I'll see you around?" I asked in hopes he would say yes.
"Definitely. Me and some friends are hanging tomorrow if you would like to come along?" I smiled and nodded. I waved and ran inside. He was super cute! But something about him raised the question I can't stop asking myself. Why does he look at the ground when he smiles?
