Chapter 3 - The Phoenix

Walking around the woods, we thought of ways to kill time and figure out what are we going to do.
When will we go to the other side or remain here forever or even where will we go, but at the moment we paced in the woods with no animals and humans to be seen.
While walking, I noticed that Adam's phoenix in his shirt was half turning into ash and it still kept going but a bit quicker than the last time.
The day ended quickly and there's a little change with Adam's phoenix and with me, still wondering if our body are going to do something.
Adam was saying random topics to fill the void of boredom, every once in a while he would crack a joke and I would just laugh.
We also ended up talking more of our past and slowly connect to each other.
"So... as silly as it sounds I have a phobia of ducks looking at me somewhere in the world."
I said and he looked at me covering his mouth in a poor attempt to hide his laughing face, in response, I blushed looking away unconsciously looking cute and deffenseless.
Then suddenly, it felt as if some switch, switch-on in Adam, but at that moment I only thought of it as something small.
"So, why not we just settle down and call it a day. Besides, the sky is full of stars today and we can watch that while we're waiting for morning so we can see stuffs".
Sitting down against the tree, Adam went beside me and held my hands
"Thank you - for - you know - helping me out when I was lost, and I'm sorry - - -"
I looked beside me and I saw Adam said it while giving of a sad aura.
I understand on what he meant by thank you, it was his sorry that made me puzzled, so I instinctively raised my free hand and ruffled his hair once more attempt to cover him, yet it didn't work.
"I don't even deserve your kindness" he said while tears slowly running down in his eyes as he sat down and covered his face.
I let go of his hand and hugged him to comfort him
"Whatever it is, you can tell it to me and we can go through this" I said and as I look at him
He was shaking terribly and his tears flowing as they were the first time I met him but worse.
"You know what, how about we both confess something so that we can lift some weights out of our conscience? Right?"
But he's not responding.
*BAM!*
"Adam?! Adam?!"
I shouted when I saw Adam's body slammed to the ground.
His tears stopped flowing, his phoenix rapidly turning into ash as his body went translucent in every second.
Tears now falling down from my eyes, I shook his body while screaming his name hoping that something would happen.
Slowly his body had a strong light emitting out of him then I noticed it immediately that the phoenix turned to ash then...
Adam disappeared.
Leaving me alone
in the woods.
In the darkness...
As sadness
and loneliness
came to me.
