Prologue
Three best friends living life to the fullest with their normal teen dream. One day a opportunity came by and their friendship fell apart as soon as Zach had to move to another part of the country. A few years went by and all was forgotten....
Malika's P.O.V.
"Mum where are you? Coming down stairs."
"In the living room, honey."
As I step in the room, I couldn't help the emptiness in my heart.
"This place looks like a ghost town. How can our lives fit in a couple of boxes?" Sitting down on the covered couch.
"Honey...Don't depress yourself. Everything is going to be fine." Packing the last few things.
"Mum...Why do we have to leave?"
"Malika not this again. We can't exactly cancel the move so stop moaning."
"Yes you can mum, you could cal..."
"Malika! Enough!" Getting annoyed with my attitude.
"But I don't understand." Still not giving up.
"Why do we have to leave town! Mum! Please this is my home and I can't leave my home, where my heart belongs. What about Zara? Huh mum? She's my best friend, I can't just leave her." Becoming upset.
"Honey, listen" Sighing. Sitting on the couch besides me, hugging me.
"This job benefits you and gives us a better future from what this small town couldn't give us. Don't worry about Zara. She's a big girl, she can take care of herself and plus baby, she can always come and visit, she's more than welcome." She said to me in a calm motherly voice.
"But it's not the same without her. Shes like my other half. How can I leave my other half? I don't think I will be able to make new friends over there, I'm not going to make another 'Zara' there am I?" Becoming Dramatic but serious.
"Mum please don't make me go. I don't want to leave." Begging, close to tears.
"Malika! We have gone over this! Enough is enough. We are going whether you like it or not! Stop being dramatic!" Getting frustrated. Getting up from the couch.
Sighing, calming down. "Honey, Baby...listen don't worry about not making friends. Who wouldn't be friends with my beautiful daughter?" Messing up my hair, which made me laugh.
"See, there's that beautiful smile of yours." Smiling at me.
Smiling back. I got up and gave her a hug.
"I'm sorry mum, I'm just scared. My whole life is here and I don't like change. I didn't mean to annoy you."
"It's okay. That's what children do and I know you're scared but I'm here for you. Change is not always bad this could be the best decision that we ever made".
there was a moment of silence.
"Now, come and have breakfast before we go."
As she gets the plastic plates I started to think about how life would be in L.A. well I guess I'll find out soon.
"Mum. Can i ask you something? It's about Dad."
"Ah huh honey. Ask away." Too busy to realise I'm serious.
"He knows right? That we're moving? Right Mum?" That finally caught her attention. Froze for a second.
"Mum?"
"Umm... Don't worry about that right now and eat your breakfast or we'll be late".
I didn't want to upset her I stayed quite but, I got my answer from the lack of responds.
When we're both finished and put our last bit of luggage in the truck, we were finally in the car and ready to go. Looking at my home just made that emptiness hole in my heart grow. Remembering all the memories. Good and the bad I've had in that house, I'll always remember them. I felt a teardrop rolling down my cheek, I quickly wipe it away and and plug my headphones into my phone and listen to my favourite playlist. Trying to not think about how leaving broke my heart.
"Malika, honey. Don't worry everything is going to be alright. We can forget the bad and we can finally be happy."
"But we were happy in our little house and I was happy with my life, with Zara and...."
"And...what?"
"Oh...umm..nothing."
"Look I know it's hard at first but it gets better I promise everything is going to be okay."
"Whatever you say mum."
***
It's only been a few hours and I am still looking out of the same window. The sky suddenly becomes dark and all you could see was bright city lights and soon enough we were finally at our new house...
