"You ready, kiddo?" My uncle asks me. I sigh and throw my head back onto the passenger seat. He lets out  laugh. My little brother, Nathan, sings the theme song to his favorite show for the hundredth time in the past hour.

"I wanna go home." I groan, looking out the window as we drive past open fields.

"This is your home. This is your new home." My uncle tells me, switching lanes.

"No offence uncle Jay, I know you love Ohio but this will never be my home. I hate it here. You know that." I say to him. He lets out a breath of air.

"You have such a negative attitude." He mumbles.

"Well, try being in my shoes for a day." I snap and pull out my phone.  He says nothing and keeps his eyes locked on the road.

We follow the big moving truck and pull into a decent sized driveway. I look at the house. It's just big enough for the three of us and looks like it's only one floor. My mom hops out of the truck and smiles. "We're here!" She shouts with a huge smile on her face.

"Here we go." I grumble, unbuckling my seat belt and getting out of my uncles truck. I unbuckle Nathan and help him out. He immediately starts running around. I walk over to my mom. "Do you like it?" She asks. I shrug. "C'mon, cheer up." She says, wrapping her arm around my shoulder. I sigh and take another look at the house.

I'm not really thrilled to be moving here. I've never really enjoyed Ohio. I mean yes, the people are nice but it's just not my place. I'd rather be back in New York, with my friends, walking around, seeing people I actually know. I can't do that here. It's very hard for me to make friends, especially now days. I have horrible social anxiety and become too awkward.

"When do I start school?" I ask my mother.

"Monday." She replies, opening the back of the truck.

Great. I only have 2 days to prepare myself for a new life. "You'll do fine." My mother reassures me. I give her a weak smile.

We start unloading everything and putting things where they go. My uncle helps out with the big stuff. I take mine and my mothers things and take care of Nathan. We finish everything around 6:30.

"Hey, there's a little place all the teens hang out." My uncle says to me.

        "And?" I ask.

"How about I drop you off down there so you can make some friends?" He suggests.

"That is the-" I start to say but am cut off by my mother

"Best idea!" She chirps, popping in from around the corner.

        "No. You don't understand! I can't..." I try but they won't listen.

"C'mon! The kids here are nice. I think they'll like you." He says.

        "I doubt it." I mumble.

        "Ash." He warns. I sigh.

"Can I at least get ready?" I give in. He nods and smiles. I go into my new room and start getting ready. I put this on and do my hair and makeup.

I walk out and get into my uncles car. He comes in shortly after me and starts driving.

"So, what is the "hang out?"" I ask.

"Its just a little ice cream place. But it's like a 50's diner. It's really cool." He explains. I nod. It sounds nice.

Within 10 minutes, we're there. He stops infront and the doors unlock. "Good luck." He says as I step out. I gulp. I turn to say something to him but he is already speeding down the road. I mentally curse him. The door opens and a bell goes off. The young man holds the door open for me. I politely smile and step in. My uncle was right. This place is pretty cool. Teenagers fill the place. They all stare at me. I awkwardly walk up to the counter and order a small vanilla milkshake. They serve me and I walk over to a small booth in the corner. As I sip my drink, I look around, observing the scenery. People continuously glance at me. I try my best to ignore it but it's making me nervous.

A girl slides into my booth. I look at her with surprise. She smiles at me, her face glowing and blonde hair falling over her shoulders.

        "Uh...hi." I say.

"Hi." She chirps. "Are you new here?" She asks. I nod. "Where are you from?"

"New York." I reply simply. She nods.

"Well, I'm Bethany." She introduces herself.

"Ashley." I say. She smiles again.

"When do you start school?" She asks me, leaning on the table.

        "Monday." I reply.

"Nice." She nods. I do the same, taking another sip of my milkshake.

"I know I don't know you, but, there's a party tonight. I was wondering if you wanna come? Maybe you can make more friends before school starts." She says.

"Are you setting me up?" I ask, laughing slightly.

        "No!" She laughs.

"I don't know Bethany. It's my first day here. I've only been here a couple hours. My uncle forced me here." I ramble.

        "It'll be fine!" She tries.

"Let me ask." I say. She smiles wide and nods. I pull out my phone and text my mom who replies 'YES' immediately. "Looks like I'm going." I say.

"Yay!" She claps. I laugh. She grabs my hand and pulls me out. "Let's go!"

What am I getting myself into?
