Years went by and she was still spiraling down the wrong path. Finding whatever pathetic job that would hire a high school drop out and then losing that job and starting over. Her parents finally got divorced and since she was 18 now they didn't have to claim her. Her dad moved to North Carolina with a 23 year old air head and her mom moved to a rehab center in East Birmingham.
Luckily Shellys friend Kelly, who took her in, also was able to take Tami in. Under one condition. Tami needed to work towards her GED and then eventually go to Texas Tech college. Tami was not happy with that deal but she knew she didn't have a choice at this point.
Monday rolled around and she had to sign up for her GED class at the University of Texas. She was able to
borrow Kelly's car and drive herself to the registration center in the middle of campus. She followed the signs as best she could but still couldn't find the correct building.
I was not made for this clearly!!!! I need to go home.
She knew she didn't have a choice, either classes or living on the streets. She decided to ask for help. Right then a guy in a "Dillon High Football" shirt walked past her.
Hmm maybe he's looking for the same class as me. Clearly he's still in high school with that dumb shirt on.
Dillon High was the town next to Waco and their biggest competitors in football. Tami only knew that because it was the only away football game the cheerleaders went to.
"Hey are you on your way to GED registration too?" She asked
"....me?" he said with a thick southern accent.
"No the person behin-" she decided to leave her sarcasm behind. "Yes."
"No sweetie i'm going to Psych 101. Its a requirement not a choice." He said flashing a smile.
Taken off guard by his perfect teeth "....oh you actually go here?"
"Well yes that's why i'm on campus" He said taking off his sun glasses and revealing his bright blue eyes.
Is this a prank
She just looked at him for what seemed like hours.
"You okay there? What's your name by the way? I'm Eric..Eric Taylor star running back here at the great University of Texas."
Great another dumb footballer
"Tami Hayes. Thanks for your help i actually have to get to the registration center. I dropped out of high school sophomore year and now need to get my GED before i get kicked out and have to live on the streets. Good luck with your full ride scholarship and free housing. Hope you don't break your leg one day and loose everything." She said walking away from him.
"Woah not so fast" he said following her "that was very stereotypical of you"
"but it's true right?"
"...maybe."
"that's what i thought. See ya later..what'd you say your name was? Taylor?"
"Eric actually. Eric Taylor but you can call me whatever you want as long as i can call you mine."
Her heart sank. She has never felt like this before. She hasn't been with a guy since Moe and she doesn't even consider that. She's never felt love and if this is what it feels like...she didn't want too.
