She had spent her whole life being everyone's second choice. The last girl any boy would ask to prom and the last person that anyone would want to be friends with. Everyone's last choice but Mark's.
Mark Johnston was her best friend and her only friend. He was funny and quirky.
But now the were leaving high school. Mark heading to Harvard Law School. Annabeth going to the Glasgow university, all the way in Scotland, her original home country to study literature and photography.
