Split Life of Magic - Alex Smithback ( )

Without you I would have never even finished half the book. You were like the sister I portrayed you as.

[I NEED AN EDITOR]

Chapter 1

Not everything is perfect. Not everyone gets a happy ending. That's the first thing a demigod and witch or wizard should know. Hi, Catherine Granger here, but I prefer Cathy. My life is a mess. It all started when I was five and my half-sister, Hermione got the letter. The letter was an invitation to Hogwarts, weird name if you ask me. Our family moved across the Atlantic Ocean and bought a house in London.

I never met my mom but my dad told me she was a beautiful woman who had left right after I was born. I was born only because my dad cheated on her but they got back together right after. My sister was told that she was a muggle-born. Right after she left and we came home my parents had a serious talk with me. It turns out that they were both pure-blood wizards. I was only half, my dad had no idea if my birth mom was a witch. My parents forbade me from talking about the wizard world anywhere, the exception being our home.

Five years after Hermione left, I took an opportunity to go to a different school, and my life got challenging. I went to Deerfield, Wisconsin, America. It was a small town with only a public school. The elementary school was on the edge of the main part of the little town and had grades 4k-6. The middle school was part of the high school and only took up a little more than one hallway. The family I was staying with lived near a huge forest that was rumored to be haunted. Right when I arrived they showed me my room for the stay.

When an adult tells you not to do something kids will try to do it. So I decided to learn more about the forest behind my temporary home. I found out from asking around that anyone that went in never came out of the forest, well they came out dead. Some people claimed that they could have seen a woman with flame red hair, pale as snow, and as fast as light, or so they claimed.

Two days later I went to school, I was the only student that still and trouble reading in fifth grade. I could hardly stand to sit in those uncomfortable desks. It was a whole different experience after had been home schooled all my life. There was a weird boy who didn't seem to fit in, like me. He walked oddly and nobody seemed to know where he went after school. Life was getting boring. Time seemed to go extremely slow while I was in the classroom. The time seemed to go really fast when I was in gym or recess running around and playing. I found myself so bored, that I wanted to learn how to control my magic earlier than most children of the wizarding community.

I didn't know how to protect myself and I didn't know my strengths. The only thing I was able to do was random flairs of magic that did not seem to do anything. Because I was only ten, and in America, I didn't think the Ministry of Magic could do anything to stop me. The days grew shorter as winter rolled in. I would sneak out at night to practice and extend my magic. I took out with me a few things that the family wouldn't miss, like a little hand mirror, and an old, blank notebook. I concentrated on breaking the glass in the mirror, but nothing happened, so I flung the mirror across the grass, and it landed near the woods.

I stood up, ready to get it, and then when I was about a meter away, something flashed in the shadows. I froze. Nothing more happened for a little bit, and I grabbed the mirror and raced back into the house and into my room. I knew that I was like everyone else, and I would admit it. I was really afraid of that forest. But my curious nature won out, and I decided to prepare to enter the forest.

This book is in the process of editing at this time. Please respect the fact that there are several grammatical and spelling errors, as well as plot holes. I am working to repair the damage caused when I first wrote this, I was fourteen. Now I just turned sixteen and I hope my writing skill has improved.
