'We look up at the stars, yet we see such different things.'
Humming along to the tune of smells like teen spirit as he crossed the road in the rain was not a good idea. Otabek realised that even though he loved the feeling of light rain on his face, simply walking around in the middle of a thunderstorm was not wise. The street lights cast a dull yellow light on the street, the Kazakh males eyes adjusted. He sighed. Otabek hadn't really thought about his actions once again and pulled the soaked hoody closer to his drenched body, trying to savour some warmth. It was November the third, a couple days after his nineteenth birthday. He wasn't exactly eager to be older, but the excuse to have a nice couple days with his family was enough to make him smile. It was early morning Saturday and the sky was dark with anger, grey clouds covering up the usual happy sun. Otabek noticed a small antique shop a little bit ahead that looked quite warm and empty. Which in Otabek's case was absolutely perfect. He slipped past a family armed with umbrellas and opened the door, causing a soft ring from the door bell to notify the people inside someone had entered. Frankly though, nobody came. Otabek sighed in soft relief and began to look around. He loved antique shops, he'd always been found of them. Growing up with not the wealthiest family meant that when he was younger, his mother would take him to a place similar to this and would allow him one item. It was always a badge he would pick, thinking they were super cool or however his thought pattern was as a child. Sadly though, he could see no badges, if there was any he would of bought the store out of them!
"Hello? Are you brain-dead or something?" A question was suddenly fired at him which caused the Raven to stiffen and look up.
"Hm? Oh sorry, I needed to get out of the rain for a moment." Otabek's honey brown eyes looked up, meeting the strangers emerald ones. He was instantly mesmerised by the creature in front of him. A male who had shoulder length hair that looked like it was made out of golden silk, his pointy but feminine nose and slim but full pretty lips, the blonde's eyelashes and eyebrows were both blonde, giving him a beautiful appearance. He was slim but broad, slightly muscular and overall very pretty. "You don't happen to know if they sell umbrellas here do you?" Otabek asked as he surveyed the other. He felt a blush on his cheeks, and thanked whatever hierarchy there was after life ended for his tanned skin. It hid his blush well. He didn't believe in angels, but decided this person in front of him was the closest he was going to get to ever meeting one. He suddenly felt a little shy, it wasn't like he himself was a masterpiece.
The blonde glared at him. "This is an antique shop. If you're not here for that type of shit then get out." He pointed to the door before turning around.
"W-Wait." For the first time in a long time, Otabek stuttered, a little shocked with himself. "Do you sell badges? I didn't happen to see any on the way in here-"
"What type of antique shop would we be if we didn't have a badge collection? Come on!" The blonde scoffed, he had a label on his shirt, reading the name Yuri Plisetsky. He turned, waiting for the other to follow
Otabek watched the blonde, reading the name tag glad for the new piece of information. He walked after the presumably younger blonde to a small pinned up board, filled to the brim with badges. He noticed how the blonde had perked up, deciding he would try help with that. "You sure have a lot." He said, still keeping his average monotone voice, keeping his face void of emotion.
"There my grandpas." Yuri answered steadily, "what's your point?"
"Oh, nothing. I just haven't seen such a collection for awhile." He decided to open up slightly, Otabek swung a backpack off of the side of his shoulder. It has been a plain black bag when he first got it, but was now being taken over by vintage badges. Well. Not all of them were vintage, mostly vintage but there were some cute and simple designs such as one of a tree which for some reason truly pleased him. There were noticeable holes in the overflowing badge coating though, Otabek felt the need to comment on it. "I lost a couple in the lovely weather outside." He said whilst motioning to his soaked body. "I forgot how awful the weather was here." He said with a sigh. He checked which badges he'd lost as he said this. He let out a gentle sigh of relief. Nothing too precious since all his favourites were still there. Yes. All his favourites since the Kazakh was bad at choosing.
Yuri looked at him with not even an ounce of sympathy. "You left your house without a coat? What an idiot." He muttered. "All badges are €2, except for the two gold ones. Only the bear is for sale, tiger is mine." The blondes perfect eyebrows were in a permanent frown. Otabek wondered to himself if anyone could ever lift that frown off of his face and replace it with a smile.
Funnily enough, Otabek's eye had caught the golden bear badge, he looked at Yuri with slight curiosity. "How much for the bear badge?" He asked him, keeping his eyes on it. The way it was made looked beautiful, though Otabek presumed it would be very expensive. It had very minute details and looked like it had taken a long time to manufacture.. maybe it was rare? Otabek couldn't be sure. The tiger badge was also pretty cool, but he knew there would be no way of persuading the angsty teen in front of him to part ways with it. That disheartened him slightly, they were obviously a set. The larger pin badge looked like it would fill one of the gaping wounds in the badge coating of his bag. Plus, the Kazakh had a weird soft spot for bears, so he wouldn't really mind that much if he only left the shop with that badge instead of the both of them.
Yuri scoffed. "You can't buy it with money idiot. They're a pair!" He pointed at the tiger and bear. "You can't just come once in hopes of getting the bear. The tiger has to like you first!" With that the blonde disappeared back to the other side of the shop.
Otabek was slightly stunned by the others explanation, but didn't really mind. Was that the blondes way of.. perhaps flirting? He shrugged to himself and inspected the badges curiously. After a while he ended up getting three smaller badges and going to the counter, his finger ghosting over the pin on one of them. After buying the badges and placing them on his bag, Otabek braced himself for the cold weather and walking out of the shop. He walked quickly, only a single thought on his mind as he trudged back to his apartment.
He wanted that bear badge and he would do anything and everything to get it.
(Hello! This was chapter one! I don't really count this as a 'au' so to speak, They aren't figure skaters, but little badge collecter people. I've been dying for someone to make soft Otayuri badge buddies so I decided to make it myself! Hope you all enjoy!)
