Cathrine stepped into the circle of salt, her profile illuminated by the full moon's gentle light.
In one trembling arm she held her stillborn child, while the other was busy with the task of drawing a pentagram with salt. Her hesitance was masked with her overwhelming feelings of self-loathing and fear.
Dusting the last grains of salt that clung onto her sweaty palm, she grabbed the blackcandle stick from the floor, lighting the wick with caution.
"Come forth, Daemonium. I have a deal for you."
The sensitive source of light flickered dangerously. "What do you desire?"
Catherine stared longingly at the small limp baby, mumbling, "I need you to bring my child back to life. This is the third one I've lost, and I don't believe the King has much patience left in him to wait nine months for another."
She looked up into the monster's pure onyx eyes, prominent black veins sprouted from the skin around the glossy onyx orbs and trailed throughout his body. Horns curled out of his mess of brown hair, and the monster's blood stained lips had the same dark shade from the last time Catherine had summoned him.
Her hands only trembled more, but she played it off by holding onto her dead child's body.
"What is the price, I will pay anything."
The silence made her uneasy, and just when she was about to begin to beg, he spoke up, "and this child will become the next King, I presume?"
Catherine nodded quickly. "Yes, I-I have no other children."
She did not flinch when he put his hand over the child's head, just stared attentively as he cleared his throat.
"Hm. I have a deal for you, Lady Catherine," the Demon glanced at the child in her arms, "I will bring this child back to life, and allow you to become pregnant as many times as you wish."
Catherine smiled and bowed her head in respect. "Thank you, I am forever grateful for your-"
"But," He interrupted. "Once the boy turns eighteen, I shall take him from you."
Catherine's smile melted into a frown at the price of her child's life.
"Must I remind you, my Lady, that if you refuse you will certainly die."
The Queen turned around, she knew what she had to do, she knew there was no other choice. She just needed to breathe.
"Will you not consider taking my life for his?" Catherine pleaded, "Surely there is another way."
"There is not. That is my only proposition for you, Lady Catherine. Take it or leave it, but don't waste my time any more."
Catherine looked down at the baby in her arms, her son. She would do anything for him and he hasn't even opened his eyes yet.
So it was without hesitation that the Queen looked up at the monster in front of her and nodded gently.
"I will take your deal, Monstrum."
