Dan joins the Army, and on the day that he was supposed to come home, everyone was coming out of the plane, and Phil was waiting patiently for Dan to come out, but instead, a man came up to him and gave him a paper and all he said was "Sorry for your loss" before walking away. Phil read the paper, telling him that Dan was presumed dead, because he disappeared during a raid. Phil breaks down, and goes home broken and crying.
A year later, Phil is moving out of the flat, and he finds a box of old photos of him and Dan on TATINOF. He starts to cry, but he's still smiling, thinking of the brown haired boy he lost and the times they had together. When he gets a knock at the door, he assumes it's his neighbor, let's call her Charlotte, who's been checking on him for the past year as he got over his loss. "Charlotte, I told you, I'm doing just fi-" He cuts himself off as he looks up, and sees Dan, caked with dirt, in his uniform, tears in his eyes, right in front of him.
"Dan?" He asks quietly, tears falling slowly. He practically tackles him in a hug, never wanting to let go.
"I'm home." Dan whispers.
