Silence. Complete silence. I got up from where I was sitting. There was no way they had gone. I knew they hadn’t. They were up to something. I bent down and picked up my gun, aiming it in front of me, ready to shoot if needed. It was dark, the lights were off in here. I barely dared to breathe as I stepped around the hotel room. I stumbled over something that was lying in the middle of the floor. I quickly regained my balance and looked down to see what I tripped over. I almost screamed, it was one of the maids. Her eyes were open and staring up at the ceiling blankly and her mouth was slightly open. She had a slash along her throat and she was lying in a pool of her blood. Gagging, I went for the door, slowly turning the knob.

I opened it a crack, holding the gun firmly in my hand. A little bit of light from the hall seeped through, I could see the blood on my hand. I’m sure it was on more than just my hand. I had a gash on my arm from a knife and cuts all over my hands and knees from falling on pieces of glass. I probably looked pretty gruesome. I didn’t care. I was getting out of this God forsaken hotel. Damn them! Who the hell were these people and what the hell did they want? My friends and I never did anything to them!

I hoped and prayed they were alright. The image of the maid flashed through my mind and my heart raced. Please let them be safe. Stephanie and Kari had been at the pool when they came… It was just me and the maid in the hotel room. This weekend had turned out to be a disaster.

The hallway was empty, I lowered the gun on the off chance someone came out of their room or a staff member was walking around.

I wondered what people would think if they saw me. An 18 year old girl in a blood spattered white tank top and ripped denim jeans. No shoes with cuts on her knees, hands, and a gash on her arm. Not to mention the tangled rats nest that was supposed to be my hair.  Good thing I had Auburn hair, I’m pretty sure I had a gash on my head that was bleeding. Oh yeah and let’s not forget about the gun.

This had gotten out of hand, way outta hand. I had to get out, but if anyone saw me it was sure to bring up questions. And I couldn’t tell anyone about this. Sure that sounds stupid, why not just run to the nearest room and ask for help? It would get sorted out immediately. Hah! Yeah, no it wouldn’t. It would make things ten times worse. It would mean people would die. People that I would never want to die, especially for something I did.

I tiptoed out and shut the door quietly behind me. Now that I was in the light I could see a little better. I looked down at my legs. There were blood stains on the knees of my ripped denim jeans from the cuts when I’d fallen on the glass. They still throbbed a little but that didn’t matter. I looked at my hands, they were cut up pretty bad too. My arm was what hurt the worst. I turned my head and looked at the side of my arm as best I could. I long gash going down my right arm when the knife had slashed me. That had almost been my neck…

I touched around it gently. I sucked my teeth as it blazed. It was still bleeding too, I needed to stop the bleeding. I looked down the hall again, looking for the laundry room. I found it and ran over to it. I lucked out, there was a first aid kit in there. I grabbed some rubbing alcohol and a few gauze pads. I poured some of the alcohol on it. That hurt like hell and I put my good hand in front of my mouth and clamped down to keep from screaming. I dabbed at it with one of the gauze pads, wiping away some of the blood. I placed the rest of the gauze pads over the cut and pressed hard. I gritted my teeth as I did so. It hurt so fucking bad. I grabbed some of the surgical tape and secured it on. I tried moving that arm around but it hurt, so I cradled it to my chest. I needed to get out of here, but I had no idea where to go. Where the hell were Stephanie and Kari? Please let them be okay…

They were still here somewhere, hiding, waiting for another chance. I knew they were going to kill me, but I had to try and escape and find my friends. We had to survive this. I had to stop this madness. I don’t care how much pain I have to endure, no one hurts the ones I love. This was going to end. I needed to find them, maybe they were still at the pool. I had no idea what time it was but it couldn’t be that late.
