            Alexia's POV

"Holy shit! I can't believe this! This is great, best present I've gotten by far! I love it so much, aaahhhh!"

I couldn't help but to chuckle. Mallie was my overly optimistic and cheery bestfriend, the complete opposite of myself, who was usually a 'glass half empty' and unsociable person. And right now, the bubbly blonde was having a cheer attack; as a birthday present for turning nineteen, her parents had managed to cop two front row tickets for a One Direction concert, Mallie's all time favorite band. I enjoyed their music highly and liked most the members, but I usually didn't say that. After all, this band was meant for little nine and ten year olds, in my opinion.

"That's great Mal. I hope you have a good time." I muttered, trying to be enthusiastic for her sake. The last thing I wanted was to bring her down on her special day. Flashing a wicked grin at me, she grabbed my hand, and placed one of the two tickets into my palm without hesitation.

"You mean, you hope we have a good time." She corrected me and I shook my head.

"Mal, really, you don't have to take me, why don't you just take someone else? I bet you have friends who would love to go more than I would." Sighing, I tried handing the ticket back, but she refused to take it. I then tried to set it down, but she picked it up and shoved it into my jacket pocket.

"I know you like them, so don't give me that bull. Better clear your schedule 'cos you're coming with me, girlie. And this isn't up for discussion. You can't say no to the birthday girl, after all." Mal grinned triumphantly; I rolled my eyes.

"You're annoying. But I love you, so fine, I'll go."

"Yahtzee! Great! You better start to head home before it gets real late, and text me when you get there! Oh, and don't lose that ticket!"

Her hairbrained thoughts made me chuckle and I nodded in promise, hugging her. We said our goodbyes as I headed out the door.

I walked out of Mallie's apartment complex. The brisk October wind hit my face and it ignited goosebumps, which ran up my arms and legs as I began to walk home. I pulled the zipper further up my coat in attempts to keep myself warm, my thoughts adrift. Ten minutes had passed without trouble, but the feeling of being watched made uneasiness crawl up my spine and it made the hairs on the back of my neck rise and my pace quickened. At one point, I thought I heard footsteps behind me, but upon turning around, nothing was there. My pace slowed a bit as I reached my apartment and quickly headed inside. My heart pounded in my chest but I just simply shook my head. Fear can do crazy things to a person.

Locking the door and letting myself calm down, I called out for my mother.

"Mom, you home? Mom? MOM!" My voice rang out through the small apartment, but no response came. I furrowed my eyebrows, frowning. She was home by now, what could be keeping her? I didn't know. She didn't call when I rang her cell, that was odd. Worry coursed through my being as I searched the house for a sign, something that let me know that she was okay. Finally, I found a note attached to the fridge, words scrawled onto the paper in her neat handwriting.

'Decided to spend the night at Damon's. Phone broke but should be working by tomorrow afternoon. Love you, don't forget to lock the doors. - momma'

My heartbeat slowed as I scanned the note. Decided to spend the night at her boyfriend's? That didn't sound much like mom but it must've meant she was getting more comfortable with him and was finally moving on from her first love, my dad. It had been fourteen years since his death, anyways. It was good for her to find happiness in a man again.

I set the note down and headed into my room, tiredness starting to replace the worry. A yawn escaped my lips as I pulled my clothes off, careful to put the ticket somewhere where I would remember it. Without putting any pajamas on, I climbed into my bed and underneath the comforter. My eyes closed soon enough and I drifted into darkness, blissfully unaware of the events to come.

A/N :: I started rewriting this fanfic a while back, and I kinda let it fall down to nothing, so I'm deciding to come back and revise/rewrite it so it makes more sense and isn't a crappy cliche fanfic. If it's been revised, it will say it has been, if it doesn't, then it hasn't been revised yet. So bare with me as I try to get the revisions done and start writing it again.
