A Summer to Remember

Chapter 6: The Carnival

" Wow you really like carnivals, huh?" Alex said smiling at me.

" Yeah" I was eating cotton candy while waiting to go on a ride.

" Can I have some?" He asked giving me a smile.

" Nope" I smiled teasingly.

" Aww pleasee Leaahh.." He asked giving me a puppy face.

" Mhmm noo" Shoving alot of it in my mouth. He looked at the blue cotton candy dangling off my lips. He kissed me, with the rest of the cotton candy melting in my mouth. We both smiled at eachother while he licked his lips and went on the ride hand in hand.

After a while, when we were walking I saw the ferris wheel. I squeeled.

" What?" He asked laughing.

" I wanna go on" I yelled from the loud backround of people and rides.

" Alright". We went on the line and gave the guy our tickets.

" Its so beautiful up here" Alex said looking amazed with a glow in his eye. We were almost all the way at the top of the ferris wheel. I wasnt a big fan of heights.

" Yeah" I said shaking a little when I looked down clutching my bag tighter. Alex saw my expression and started laughing.

" Why did you want to come on this if your scared of heights"

" Im not scared of heights" I said looking down again regretting it. He laughed again. " It's alright" He said starting to hold me tighter. We were finally at the top. My phone vibrated I looked at it and saw it was James

Are you mad at me?

Of course im mad at you, you asswhole!! I felt like smoke was coming out my ears just thinking about what a stupid question he would say after not talking for a month. My body started to tense up I let go....a month...wow.. Suddenly my anger started to get blocked by tears. I tried my best not to cry but I finally gave up after all those weeks. I turned my head not for Alex to look at me. I didnt want to ruin this moment. I I felt weak. My vision was getting blocked my salt water, I could taste it in my mouth. I felt my phone being snatched but I didnt care. Tears were streaming down my face. I wanted to go hide myself in a hole and scream but I couldnt I was on a freakin ferris wheel..great. I hate how just by doing one thing he can control my feelings.

" Who's James" Alex asked either curious or mad, I couldnt tell. I couldnt talk either. I felt him look at me holding me tighter.

" Leah talk to me" I wanted to but the words just didnt want to come out.

" Leah..." He said worried. He grabbed my chin so I could face him.

" Come on" He added. James...who was Jamess he changed so much I didnt know who he was anymore.

" This guy" I choked out.

" And what about this guy" I could tell his mood was changing by his back tensing up.

" I liked him" I looked away quickly. I felt his gaze harden on me.

" And he knew I did.. I liked him alot" I added sniffling.

" And what happend?" He said with a low voice. We were making our way down the ferris wheel.

" Umm well we were friends...but we didnt talk alot..I guess I dont know.." My eyes started burning wanting tears.

" Keep on going" He said slowly rubbing my arm for comfort.

" He told me all these things that I was pretty, and how we were going to grow old together. He was going to be a doctor. I was going to be a artist and we were going to have to kids, Jaden and Maya..". I smiled thinking of the past. I remember when we were arguing because he wanted Maya's name spelled differently. Then at the end of the fight he told me that it didnt matter anymore  and that he didnt care as long as it was our baby. God, there were so many memories we had. I felt  a tear escape my eye. Alex wiped it off with his thumb. I almost forgot he was next to me.

"What else" He said quietly.

" And then.. I found out he had sex with the school whore" I choked out swallowing the lump in my throat. Alyssa. I thought we were friends. 

" And then the next day he acted like nothing even happend.. and we havent spoken since....and.." I didnt want to tell him.

" And what Leah.." I couldnt look at him it felt wrong.

" Leah just say it....you can tell me anything... I wont get mad" He said trailing off.

" And I-i-i think im still in l-l-love with h-him" I studdered out bursting in tears. He kept on holding me telling me it was going to be okay kissing me forhead and stroking my hair. But deep down inside I knew it wasnt.
