We have all been taught that the Devil is cruel and ruthless, and that he is a villain. The show takes an entire different route here. It shows us that who you're supposed to be is not who you're meant to be.
Lucifer is known for his cruelty but the show takes time to remind us that he was born an Angel. Samael was his true name, the 'Lightbringer'.
Lucifer leaves Hell because he is tired of the life he was told of live and wants to start anew. He ends up in Los Angeles, the City of Angels and fully embraces his surroundings. He makes it his home, he makes Earth his home.
