Darda P.O.V

I look around and it’s dark. The trees are tall and there are two paths before me. One path forked to the right and the other forked to the left. Something pulls me down the path to the left. On either side of the path there are giant oak trees. Where am I? How did I get here? Wait, why am I here? A million other questions flash through my mind but somehow these seem to be of utmost importance. I continue to walk down the path following… what? What exactly am I following? I stand still straining my ears to hear. Maybe it was my imagination. The bushes on my right rustle. Not my imagination, but whatever it is it must be huge. I peer into the darkness hoping to see… what? My dad? Yeah. I sigh with relief. It has to be dad. Any moment now he will jump out of the bushes yelling “Boo”, trying to scare me. A little voice in my head asked, why dad would be in the bushes.

“Dad?”

I decided to call out just in case but I receive no answer. Then I saw them. Eerie golden eyes rimmed with red peering at me form the bushes. I couldn’t breathe. My muscles locked together as I screamed in my mind, run! I turned and ran on ]]instinct. I didn’t know where I was running to. Blindly I exit the edge of the woods and look over my shoulder. I don’t see or hear anything. I turn around and realize I’m on the edge of a cliff. Quickly I step backwards. From the corner of my eyes I see movement. I turn and as if in slow motion I look up and up and up. There, just a few steps away from me, was the hugest black wolf I have ever seen. I step back as my head fell to my shoulders as my gaze travelled up all the way to its face. It’s those eyes. I take another step backward and realize there is no ground under my foot. I begin to fall. I do the only thing I can think of… I scream.

I roll out of bed and land on the hard, cold floor. At that moment, my dad opens the door and asks,

“Where’s the fire?”

Devlin's P.O.V

Dev stood outside his parents’ house debating the best way to have the conversation he would be unable to avoid. Had it really been almost five years since he had been here? He could remember that fateful day when he had fought with his father. As he left he could remember his mother crying, begging him not to go. Would his father still be angry at him? How will his mother react to his presence?

“Are you going to stand out here all day, boy?”

He felt he hackles rise at the tone and the words. It would seem that his father hadn’t fully forgiven him yet for leaving. With a deep sigh he walked up the wide staircase to the front door of the pack house. As he looked around he realized that he had really missed this place. A sense of peace began to settle into him, relaxing him. Mom. She was the pack’s Luna but she was also an Omega. She probably anticipated a volatile reunion between dad and me and decided to intervene.

“I wasn’t going to banish him, you know Claire,” my dad said to mom.

It seems he was thinking along the same lines as me. I smile to myself and turn just in time to catch the blur that was launched at me. As the scent registers I realize that I was holding Lizzy in my arms. I squeeze her to let her know that I have missed her too.

“Well, well, well. Just look what the cat dragged in.” That would be Devan, the troublemaker.

“Nice to see you, too,” I reply over Lizzy’s head.

“ Alright, settle down everyone,” my mom intervenes before Devan and I really get started. It feels as if I never left.

“Where’s Devary?” I ask. He is the only one who wasn’t there.

“He is probably on his way home for Sherri’s house,” Devan snickers.

“Sherri?”

“Devary’s mate.”

“Devary found his mate? When? Where is she from?”

“If you had stuck around you would already know.”

“Connor Fitzpatrick Murray, you will not pick a fight with my son. You will not be the cause of him leaving again so soon after he has finally returned and you will not make me cry or so help me I will kick you out of this house for the next two moons!”

There was utter silence in the sitting room. No one moved or said anything. We were all shocked. None more so than my dad.

“Uh, come now Claire!” my dad began.

“Don’t you dare come now Claire me!” yelled my mom.

Dad turned and stomped off to the study where he slammed the door. Collectively we released our breath. I don’t think any of us had ever heard my mom with that tone, especially directed at dad.

“Hi mom,” I said as I cross the floor to her. She came into my arms and gave my a squeeze.

“Don’t you ever dare to leave me again! Do you hear me?” she whispered into my ear as she hugged me.

“Yes, ma’am.”

There was no way I was going to disobey her after the way she dealt with dad. I was never stupid and I wasn’t going to start acting it now.

“Go talk to your father and make peace. Breakfast will be served in twenty minutes. Do not be late. Neither of you.”

I stood there watching her as she corralled Devan and Lizzy as she passed and got them moving. I turned in the direction of the study and tried to prepare myself for what was to come.
