I stirred from my deep sleep. Sunlight streamed in from the open windows. I looked at the clock. It was 7 in the morning. I looked at Bo Jin yan by my side. He was deep asleep. It is very rare that he sleeps so late, what with his constant nightmares about his kidnapping and the consequent suffering. The scars while they do not bother him, they still serve as a reminder of what he went through and what he was forced to become.
While I was in deep thought, I didn't realize that Bo Jin yan has woken up.
"Why are you not sleeping? It is Sunday. Just sleep for some more time" saying this he went back to sleep, snuggling closer to me. I smiled and went back to sleep.
When I woke up again it was 9 in the morning. Bo Jin yan had gotten up long before. I changed my dress and went downstairs to see him cooking. Life couldn't be any better. We don't have crazy psychopaths after us. Our past demons are put to rest. Living comfortably and it is not chaotic. I would be lying if I said I don't miss the thrill of catching a criminal but the cost that we paid last time was too much to think about doing it again. I know Bo Jin yan missed that part of his life. He was a brilliant criminal psychologist after all. But we both felt that we needed a bit of normalcy in our life to recover from what we went through. So as of now, our main focus is to get married. Wedding preparations are going on. The wedding is a month away and I'm freaking out.
I would rather do all the work then ask for Bo Jin yan's help. At most he will probably reply with a comment on how useless and illogical the wedding preparations are. Left to him, we would have been married by now in the registration office.
"Breakfast is ready. Come eat" Bo Jin yan's voice startled me from my thoughts. I looked at him and saw that he was already seated and waiting for me. I went and sat near him.
We started eating when he asked me about the wedding preparations. We talked while we ate. We both finished our breakfast quickly. Bo Jin yan went to get dressed. He had a meeting with the police chief about something. Don't know what but I hope it is not another case. In few minutes, Bo Jin yan came down.
"I am going now. We will go out for lunch after the meeting is over." Said Bo Jin yan. I nodded and kissed him.
"Be careful. Don't do anything that you don't want to "saying this I sent him off.
I was waiting for Bo Jin yan at the restaurant. It is 1:30 and he is yet to turn up. It's not like him to be late and I start to worry that something has happened. I called him again but it is still switched off. I tried Li Xuan. But even he did not pick up the phone. I stood up to go to the police station when I saw him coming. I sighed in relief.
"Why did you not pick up your phone? Do you know how worried I was?" I asked him as soon as he sat down.
"If you had used your brain you would have come to the conclusion that I was still in the meeting" he said. In his usual monotonous voice.
Uh...he really doesn't know how to console someone.
"What did the chief want?"
"What do you want to have today? Maybe grilled fish platter..." he said while looking at the menu.
"We eat fish almost every day. Let's eat something different." Saying this I observed him. I know he was diverting the conversation and I didn't like it one bit. It could be one of two reasons. He wants to protect me or he knows that I wouldn't like it. Either way I am dreading the news.
"What really happened, Bo jin yan? Tell me the truth. We made a promise that we wouldn't hide anything from each other." I asked him.
He remained silent. He didn't even look at me.
