"Hey sugar." Gabriel greeted, popping into your bedroom with a lollipop in his hand.
You jumped at his sudden entrance. "Jesus Christ, Gabriel. How many times do I have to tell you to fucking knock?" You shuddered at the thought of the compromising positions you could have been caught in.
"Afraid I'd walk in on you mastrubating?" He smirked.
You sighed, "Not quite where my mind was going." You rolled your eyes at his assumption. "Okay, I'll bite. Why are you so excited?"
"The fair's in town, Y/n! We have to go!" He clutched onto your arm for emphasis.
"Okay, okay!" You laughed, shaking him off. "Just let me get ready."
He nodded, exiting your room to go wait for you. You sighed once he left, the smile disappearing from your face. You were head over heels for your best friend and you hated yourself for it. You knew if you two were to date, he would get bored of you within a month. He hardly even visited you as a friend these days.
You pulled on a plain t-shirt and some shorts, fitting for the summer season. You slipped on a pair of tennis shoes, freshed up a bit and headed out to where Gabriel sat on the couch.
"Ready, sweet cheeks?" He winked when he saw you.
You rolled your eyes. "The nicknames, honestly, Gabe. Yes I'm ready."
He stuck out his tongue at you as you both made your way out to the car. He got into the driver's side and you seated yourself in the passenger's seat. You pulled out your phone and texted your friend, the only one who knew about your unfortunate crush.
Y/n: Guess who's here again 😬
F/n: Ooh I have an idea
F/n: But what's the problem? I thought you loved when Gabriel visited?
Y/n: Yeah but I've just been thinking a little too much about... ya know
F/n: Riiiight
F/n: I would suggest you tell him but I don't want things to go south
F/n: I mean
F/n: Knowing you
Y/n: Yeah
Y/n: I mean I guess I could give it a shot. We're going to the fair
F/n: Fun! Well, good luck. I gtg text me!
Y/n: Bye
F/n: Byyye
"Who're ya texting?" Gabe asked, leaning over to look at your phone.
"Eyes on the road, hotshot." You muttered, not looking up from your screen.
He pouted, but returned his eyes to the road in front of him. He grinned childishly as you pulled into the parking lot of the fairgrounds. He dragged you out of the car and into the entrance where you bought a handful of tickets and headed into the fair.
He pulled you from ride to ride, the hours ticking quickly by. It started to near 11:00, the closing time for the fair. The lights on the drop tower and Ferris wheel lit up the night in all different colors as you neared your last ride.
The line for the Ferris wheel was short, considering the time of night. You were soon seated in a compartment and slowly began climbing towards the sky.
You took a deep breath. "So, Gabe." You started.
"Mm- hmm?" He hummed, entranced by the ground below him.
"There's something I need to tell you, something I've been thinking about for a while." You nervously scratched at your arm.
"What is it?" He still wasn't looking at you which made it easier.
"You're a really amazing person and I feel like our personalities really go together, but I don't want to fuck up our friendship because it's like, the best thing that's ever happened to me. What I'm trying to say is, I think I'm in love with you, Gabriel."
Uh oh
There it goes
"But you obviously don't feel the same, I mean, why would you? Look at me, I'm a hot mess."
I said too much
"And you're a literal angel. You're actual perfection that I no where near deserve. I don't even know why you hang out with me as a friend."
It overflowed
"And I mean, you really haven't been hanging out with me all that much- I assume you're getting bored of me which makes sense, I'm a pretty boring person."
Why do
"But I just couldn't stop myself from loving you, despite me not deserving you in the slightest and you're not talking which I think is a bad sign so..."
I always
The ride stopped and you hurriedly exited, racing for your car and leaving Gabriel behind you. You navigated through the thin sea of vehicles, quickly finding yours and getting in it. You called Dean as you pulled away from the fair grounds.
Spill
"Hey, Dean?" You asked shakily, tears threatening to spill.
"Whoa, Y/n, what's wrong?" He asked, worry evident in his voice.
"You remember that part in Mean Girls where Cady talks and she can't stop talking and she calls it word vomit? Don't lie, I know you've seen it."
"Yeah I remember. Why are you bringing it up?"
"Well, I haven't told you this, but I really like Gabriel, even though I know you hate me just hanging out with him, but I really can't help it. So we were at the fair on the Ferris wheel and I told him, and I couldn't stop talking and I feel like I fucked up our entire friendship."
"Wow. That's, um... wow." He laughed nervously. "So, where is he now?"
"Honestly, I ran. I'm just praying he doesn't zap into my car." You sighed.
"Well I've never been good with love advice, you know that, but if you want my honest advice, listen to him. Go home, and once you get there, pray to him- or maybe he'll just show up there- and just listen to the guy. Who knows? Maybe he... feels the same- god, why him?" He groaned.
You laughed a bit at his response. "Thanks, Dean. I think you're right."
"No problem, Y/n. Talk to you later?"
"Yeah. Bye."
"Bye."
You hung up and returned your eyes to the road where a traffic light in front of you glowed a bright red. Your foot found its way to the brake pedal a second too late. You only heard the long beep of a car horn before something crashed into you.
Now I gotta wash my mouth out with soap
___

You woke up in a hospital bed, the heart rate monitor steadily beeping beside you. You saw that your arm was in a f/c cast and your immediate thought was 'how did they know my favorite color?'
You mentally scolded your own stupidity and brought your attention to the dull pain in your forehead. You brought your free arm up to it and felt a long line with several stitches in it. From what you could tell, those were the only things that were wrong. You sighed in relief upon realizing you hadn't been burned in any way.
You stole a glance at the clock on the wall to see it read 2:45. Another glance out the window told you it was AM. Whilst looking out the window, you saw Gabe laying down on the couch under it and making some sort of chain out of candy wrappers.
"Gabe?" You called out quietly.
His gaze shot over to you and he was at your side in an instant. As he got closer, you could see the tear stains on his face. "Y/n! Don't ever do that to me again! I was so scared." He sobbed.
You were shocked; you had never seen Gabe so serious before. And he hardly ever called you by your name.
"Sorry, I wasn't paying attention." You admitted sheepishly.
"I just..." he sighed, "I thought I might lose you."
Your heart ached upon seeing the sadness and grief behind his eyes. He really had been worried for you.
"But, anyway." He perked up a bit and wiped his eyes. "A guy can go through a lot of candy in three hours so, I made you this." He quickly connected the two ends of the candy wrapper chain and handed it to you. It was just big enough to fit around your wrist.
"I love it, Gabe." You laughed.
He chuckled lightly. "So, last night." His tone became serious again.
You averted your gaze, you knew this would come.
"I love you, sugar. More than I thought possible."
'Here it comes. Here comes the refusal.' You thought.
"And I'll be damned if those feelings are just platonic." He crashed his lips onto yours, twisting his body to accommodate for your position.
You finally started to respond after a moment of initial shock. His hand twisted in your hair as your good hand found its way to the back of his neck. His lips tasted like a strawberry lollipop- probably the last thing he had been eating.
You gave a blissful sigh as you broke apart. You had imagined kissing Gabriel many times, but nothing compared to the real thing. He sat back down, staring into your eyes with a genuine smile.
"Okay, so, I know this is a stupid question but," you lifted your casted arm, "did you tell them my favorite color?"
He laughed heartily at your question, amused by your medicine- induced mind. "I did, but don't worry, we'll get that off you soon." He promised.
He placed his fingers to your forehead and zapped you back to your apartment. You stumbled a bit to be standing suddenly and gracelessly fell into Gabe's arms. He looked down at you and shot you a wink. You rolled your eyes and righted yourself. He grabbed you by the arm as you stumbled again and carefully guided you to the couch.
He sat down next to you and flicked on the TV, a random movie appearing on the screen. Gabe lightly touched his fingers to the cut in your head, healing it instantly. He did the same with your arm, causing the cast to disappear and your bones to mend.
"Better?" He asked.
You leaned into his side and turned your eyes to the movie. "Better."
