Your P.O.V.

"Okay, let's try it one more time," I suggest. Xander sighs and placed his hands on the ice block. His eyes close and he mutters something under his breath. The ice starts to glow blue. "Yes! You got it, keep going!"

And, I jinxed it. The oversized ice cube cracks down the middle, then shatters. "I'm so sorry, (Y/N)! I just really don't think I can do it and I–" the ice dragon slayer says, his bangs swept across both eyes.

"Hey, it's okay! Jeez, stop apologizing. It gets annoying after a while," I chuckle, but Xander doesn't seem to find it very funny. He hangs his head and though I can't see his face, I can tell I upset him. "You know what? I'm gonna go look at some of the books in the library. Maybe one will have something on melting magic ice."

With one last ruffle of his hair, I turn and skip down the stone corridor. As I'm walking, something in the corner of my eye catches my attention. I quickly halt and back up. It's a black door. I never noticed that before. I mean, it's not like I know the castle very well. Taking a wild guess, this could be my dad's office. Would anyone mind if...? I glance to my left, then to my right. I don't think anyone would notice.

I try the handle, but it's locked. It looks pretty old, though. Maybe if I just–before I can finish my thought, a booming voice comes from the door.

"Password, please." I stumble backwards in astonishment. What kind of spell is this?

"I...um..." I quickly remember that dad had an obsession with dragons. "Dragon?"

"Incorrect," All of a sudden, a magic gun emerges from the doorframe, pointing straight at me. "One more guess."

Panic starts to consume me. How could I know this code? What else did he–wait. All panic seeps from my body as I realize I have it. I look up at the gun and smile. "Venus."

A second passes, and the gun draws itself back into the doorframe. The door clicks open and I step inside.

The scent of dandelions overwhelms me as I observe my surroundings. The walls are painted a light grey and a black desk sits at the end of the long room. The surface of the desk is completely bare, except for a blue notebook. There are bookshelves on the walls with locks on quite a few of the books. Some newspaper articles hang on the walls, so faded that I can't even read the titles.

I feel like this office would be more likely to have information on Xander's magic than the library would, so I head over to the bookshelves. The first book I pick up isn't locked, and has no title. Upon opening it to a random page, an image of a woman in a white-gold dress holding hands with a man in a black and red suit appears. Animals I don't recognize surround them.

I sigh and shut the book. Not what I'm looking for. I pick up another, this one being locked. It looks pretty rusty. I might be able to break it. I bring my fist up and slam it back down onto the lock. It shatters on impact.

"Cool," I say to myself. My fingers dig into the worn out pages and flip to the middle. There's a strange picture of a girl sitting on a couch, slouching over a small rectangle that lights up. An older man sits on the same couch, but stares at a bigger rectangle that's connected with another. His fingers are spread out over the second rectangle on his lap. I flip to the next page. All over both pages is a text I don't understand. Onto the next.

I place this one back and reach for the next one. Before I can, two arms hug me from behind and warm breath tickles my ear.

"Come here often?" Sting whispers and kisses my cheek. I tilt my head backwards to look into his electric blue eyes.

"Occasionally. You?" I smile and shake my head, grabbing another book. "What are you doing here? Where's everyone else?"

"They went for a walk. What's Xander up to?" He rests his head on mine. "Or, closer to my curiosity, what are you up to?"

"Digging for info. I found this office, and after having a magic gun being pointed at my head, I guessed the password and made it in," I say without looking up from my latest book. "I figured this place would have a better chance on finding anything to help Xander."

"You had a gun pointed to your head? Why didn't you run?" Sting jumps in front of me and takes my shoulders.

"I figured the password out."

"What is it?"

"Why should I tell you?"

"Because you love me."

"Do I? Because you can be really annoying sometimes and I–" Sting cuts me off by kissing me softly. Just as I start to wrap my arms around him, he steals my book.

"What is this?" He asks, his eyes flicking from me to the book, and back again.

"Good question. I've been trying to figure that out myself. Now can I have the book back, please?" I cross my arms and look up at him.

"I dunno, can you?" He cracks himself up with that one.

"How old are you? Jeez..." I chuckle and take the book back. In this one, there's some sort of weird text. "Okay, screw this."

I chuck the book back onto the shelf and stride over to the desk with the notebook on it. I snatch it up and start to flip through. My stomach drops into my feet. My eyes widen and I drop the book. I sprint out of the room as fast as I can, ignoring Sting calling my name.

"Xander! Xander?!" I screech to the walls, trying to get his attention. I trip over my own feet and skid on the stone, scraping my knees open badly. All the oxygen escapes from my body and I gasp for breath. "Xander!"

I force myself to stand and keep running. Finally, I reach the spot where we were practicing. He's not there. All of a sudden, a bright blue flash and a scream sounds from down the hall.

"Oh no." I sprint even faster this time down the hall, to the room I know he's in. Ignoring the ice on the walls, I keep running. I can see the doors at the end of the hall, and I crash through them. "Xander!"

I'm too late. My brother is curled up on the floor and our father sits on his throne. His eyes go from Xander, to me.

"Venus?"
