Freedom...At long last.
For years, I have tried to break free from that rotten old manor's second secret basement in which I've been locked up ever since I was not more than merely a child.
But now, I'm free.
Free from him.Valentine Morgenstern.
But the wards of the basement would only come off if the the manor no longer exists.
That means, someone destroyed Wayland Manor.
And I can bet on my life, it certainly wasn't Valentine.
I wasted no time as soon as I realised the chain around my neck no longer choked or burned me. Hesitantly, I touched the iron shackles around my ankles, and they crumbled to dust.
Overwhelmed with joy, I immediately loosed the iron choke around my neck, throwing the chains to the cold brick floor. Scrambling to my feet, I rushed to the door and turned the knob.
It opened.
I was so happy, that if I had a violin around, I would have danced and played it with such craze that the Nephilim would have to send me to a mental asylum for Shadow World hybrids.
Not that there is such a silly thing... Atleast, not to my knowledge.
I was ready to breathe fresh air and regain some strength, when I remembered that I was completely unarmed. Whoever destroyed the manor might not necessarily be nice people.
Or people at all.
Quickly, I scurried for my secret stash of weapons under the pile of ripped and bloody clothes in one of the corners of the basement. Grabbing a Seraph blade, two daggers and my bronze Greek sword, Charí, I made my way out this God forsaken place.
This time for good.
First thing that happened as soon as I stepped out was that the basement's collapsed. The ceiling crumbled to pieces right in front of my eyes. Had I been inside any second longer, I would have been a mashed Francine.
Not wanting to think about my so close encounter with death, I made way up the grassy hill, only to find the remains of a destroyed Wayland Manor. I stumbled across the ruins, looking for signs of life.
"Hello? Is anyone there?"
I called out.
The night was pleasant, a cool summer breeze blowing past me, cooling the perspiration off my skin. The stars seemed to shine brighter than normal. Or maybe they've always been this bright. I wouldn't know, it's been a while since I've seen such a heart pleasing sight."Who's there?"
A man yelled from a distance.I squinted my eyes in the direction of his voice. I saw a halo of gold reflecting in the moonlight, and the glow of a witchlight.
Gripping charí tightly, I approached the source of the voice.
Not a sight I'd thought I'd see.
It wasn't a man,
It was a boy.A boy most probably my age. One look at him and the first thought that came to my mind was:
Golden Boy.
