I can't tell you what it was. The smoke in the air, the laughter in the room, the uneasiness in my stomach-- I've picked up eight cards now and they keep on coming. "Who the hell shuffled these?!" I laughed, collecting an array of blues and yellows before finally picking up a green. "I give up." I mumbled sheepishly while slipping my card down.

"It's okay..." Ryan said without looking up from his cards (not rian), "Fourth round's the charm?" he asked, putting a card atop of mine.

Justin snorted, "Yeah," he shuffled through his deck, "Can't believe you've never played Uno!" he added, smirking while he placed a shitty +4 card.

Ethan did the same. Leaving me to have to pick up a total of eight cards... "Are you guys sure these are the rules?! This just doesn't seem fair..." I let out an exasperated sigh, I was loosing. Again.

I was thinking about an excuse to leave when my phone started ringing. "Ah, I better go get this... it's important." I said monotonously. Ethan glanced up, then turned his attention back onto his deck of cards.

Ryan and Justin looked at each other, "... I'm not taking his cards." They said at the same time.

"This game is fucked, just put them back on that stack." I shook my head, a little annoyed that my need to win wasn't fulfilled today. It had been passed on to these fuckers. I'm convinced that god, if there is one, decided I wasn't worth anything. But that's just me.

I let out a breath of fresh air when I reached the balcony, leaving a cloud of smoke that eventually just mixed in with the cold weather. "Hello?" I asked without checking who was calling. It was too cold for that right now. That, and there's a limited number of people who call me.

"Kellin?" An unfamiliar voice spoke up, surprise written all across their tone.

I stood up still, quirking an eyebrow, "Um, yeah? You called me, what's up? Wait... who is this?" I asked once I remembered I had no idea who I was talking to, my voice was a mix mellow and jittery.

The person on the other side of the line fell quiet. For a pretty long time. I thought about hanging up until they started talking again, "-t's me, Vic." they said.

My eyes darted from the person walking their dog downstairs, to the unknown number on my phone. "And you're looking for..." I frowned, feeling a bit frustrated. Not as frustrated as I felt inside, though.

"Kellin, it's me, I'm Vic!" he said, his voice closer to the cellphone this time.

I rolled my eyes, "So?" I asked, rubbing my hands together in front of myself. Ryan knocked on the door twice before stepping out himself, taking a seat on the sofa we had outside, blanket wrapped around any body part that wasn't under clothes.

"Vic" got quiet again. Then he hung up.

"Who was that?" Ryan asked, patting the spot next to him with a balled up fist.

I stared at his hand and shook my head, "It's too fucking cold to be out here." I muttered, feeling angry for some reason.

Ryan looked at me with wide eyes. "I'm guessing it was not a good phone call." he whispered.

"I didn't even know who that was." I shrugged, pulling the door open and stepping inside, the warmth happily embraced me and I was finally able to relax a little bit.

I handed the phone back over to Mike and Tony, my cheeks heated all the way up. "Sorry for stealing your phone, Tony." I murmured sheepishly.

Tony stared down at me with knitted eyebrows, "What did you use it for anyway?" he asked.

My smile faltered for a second, but I regained my composure quickly- "I was just checking to see if you had Amanda's phone number..." I lied, "She's really pr-beau-she's a real girl." I stumbled over my words.
