****Melanie
I sat in the car and waited for what felt like forever, so I turned on the car to check the clock. I had been waiting for almost an hour. I thought it was odd, so I decided to go back inside and find Alexis. I lingered for a minute by the front desk, but Mary still wasn’t there. I went back to Mr. Swanson's room to look for Dr. Adams, but couldn't find him or Mr. Swanson. ‘They must have moved him to a recovery room.' I thought and tried to recall if Dr. Adams had mentioned what rooms the FBI agents were in, but all I could remember was him saying they were in recovery rooms. I went from room to room looking for Dr. Adams or Alexis or Mary. I asked at the desk of the recovery wing if they knew where Dr. Adams or Alexis might be, but no one even knew Alexis had come in today.
They didn't have any record of any FBI agents or a Mr. Swanson. 'Strange. Something's wrong. This isn't right. Where's Alexis?' Things were getting very strange. I tried to call Alexis on her cell phone, but it went straight to voice mail. I called the house, but no one answered there either. I went back down to the front desk to wait for Mary, but a younger women was sitting behind the desk. I asked if she knew where Mary or Dr. Adams might be, but she had only been there about a week and didn't really know anyone's name, yet. After I described them to her, she said she hadn't seen Mary for a few weeks, and she saw Dr. Adams a few days ago but hasn’t seen him since. She hadn't seen either of them today, and they weren't scheduled to come in. After I had her page Mary and Dr. Adams, I tried calling Alexis and home one more time. No one answered the page or the phone calls. After searching the hospital top to bottom a second time, I drove home, speeding down the back roads.
It looked like no one was home, and the place looked trashed. Something really bad was happening, and I had no clue what to do or where to look. I went outside and looked around thinking maybe there was a clue I missed. On the porch, I noticed one of the chairs was missing and there was some kind of glass shattered on the floor were the chair should be. As I walked around to the back yard, I saw the chair that was missing from the front porch in pieces in the side yard not to far from the house. There was no other signs in the yard of a struggle, but something told me to walk to the rock pile close to the edge of the woods. As the rock pile came into view, I saw something on the ground behind it. I started running toward the rocks, yelling "Hello?! Is anyone there?!" The something on the ground twitched slightly, and I stopped in my tracks, as I realized what I was looking at. Myron. It looked like he had been stuffed under the rocks. "Holy shit! Myron! What the Hell happened?!"
As I tried to help him push the huge rock off him, he said "I don't know. One minute I was making lunch, and the next everything went black. Where's everyone else?"
"I don't know. You're the only one I've found, but I haven't searched the house, yet."
Sounding panicked, he asked "Where's Alexis?"
"She disappeared at the hospital. She said something told her I shouldn't go with her to heal these two FBI agents." I quickly went on and told him what happened.
"Jesus. Someone must know about her. That's the only explanation."
"We need to get you out from under this. I'll go to find something I can use for leverage. I'll be right back."
"Be careful and hurry."
As I started running toward the house, I called back "I will." I couldn't find anything strong enough to move the rocks, so I grabbed a shovel from the shed. As I headed back toward Myron, I heard something inside the house. It almost sounded like a chair scraping across the floor, so I called out to Myron "I think someone's inside the house. I'm going to take a look."
Myron yelled back "No! Wait for me!"
I hesitated for a minute but went to Myron. I didn't know who might be inside. Friend or foe? By the time I got back to Myron, he was already out from under the rock. "Are you okay?"
"I'm still a little weak, but I'm fine. Why did you think someone was inside?"
"I heard something scrap across the floor. Like a chair or something."
"Let's go take a look. I'm not letting you out of my sight."
"Sounds good to me." As we started for the house, I asked "Can you hear anything?"
"It's faint, but I think I hear someone crawling across the floor upstairs."
"Can you tell who it is?"
He whispered "No. Let's be quiet just in case."
I nodded and followed him inside and up the stairs. As we opened the door to Garret and my mothers room, we saw Garret on the floor crawling out from the opposite side of the bed. His legs looked like they had been broken, and it looked like his arms were, too.
Myron rushed to Garrets side and blurted "What the Hell happened? Do you remember anything?"
In a strained voice, Garret said "I don't remember. One minute we were walking into the room, and the next thing I know I’m waking up on the floor, like this." He motioned to his slowly healing legs and arms and asked “What do you remember?”
"Melanie found me out under the rock pile. The last thing I remember was making lunch. She heard you in here, and we came in to see who you were."
While they were talking, I walked around them to the other side of the bed. There was a large pool of blood, but nothing else. I was frozen, horrified. When I found my voice, I whispered. "Look."
Myron stood up and walked over to me, and I pointed to blood. "It's Charlotte's."
Garret snapped "What is it?!"
Myron answered "A large pool of Charlotte's blood."
"What?! Is she ... ?!"
"She's not over here, Garrett. Get yourself right. We need to search the area. Vincent and Charlotte are both missing."
I quietly said "So is Alexis."
Garret gasped and stared at me. "What do you mean?"
"She disappeared at the hospital." I quickly told him what had happened.
"No one remembers seeing her, Mary or Dr. Adams? How is that possible?" Garrett asked, as he slowly got to his feet.
"I don't know, but it must have something to with whatever happened here, too. She said something was telling her I shouldn't go with her to see the FBI agents. If that's really what they were. No one remembers them, either. Or Mr. Swanson for that matter."
As we started searching the house, Myron asked "Did Dr. Adams or Mary seem different to you?"
I thought it over for a few minutes. "As a matter of fact they did seem a little off. ... Mary practically jumped over the counter when we got there. She usually doesn't come out from behind the desk or even get up, really. Dr. Adams seemed a little too calm. He's usually easy to read. His emotions are usually painted all over his face. I just assumed it was because of why aunt Lex was there. Now that I think of it, aunt Lex even seemed a little different. She asked them to leave the room. I don't think that's normal for her, is it?"
Myron shook his head and said "No. It doesn't sound like her. She trusts Mary and Adams. She must've sensed something was wrong. What exactly did she say?"
I told them exactly what was said from the moment we entered the hospital to when I gave up and drove home. "I'm not sure what else I can tell you. Until I couldn't find aunt Lex, it all seemed pretty normal. Just another day there."
Garrett asked Myron "What do you make of all this?"
"I'm not sure. Usually, I just know when something's going to go wrong. I didn't get any warning bells at all about this."
As we stepped into the kitchen, I asked "Who could've done this?" Neither of them had an answer. "We need to find them. Where should we start?"
Myron said "Do you think you can connect to Alexis or Charlotte?"
"I don't know. It's been a few years since I've done that, but I’ll try." They nodded in agreement, and we sat down at the table. Closing my eyes, I concentrated on my mother, but I got nothing, no sound, no picture, nothing. "Nothing for my mother." I tried Alexis and got just a quick flicker of something. I couldn't tell for sure what it was, but I saw something. "I got a flash of something from Alexis, but I can't tell what it was. It was too quick."
Garrett suggested "Try Charlotte again."
I nodded and, as I tried again, I told them what I felt and saw. "I feel her, but I think she's knocked out. It's really warm. Dark. Small space. Feels like someone else is close. I can't tell for sure, though."
Myron asked "Can you tell if you're moving? Like in a vehicle."
"I'm not sure. It feels like there is motion, but I can't say for sure. It's kind of like she's been drugged or something."
Garrett said "That would explain us not remembering what happened. What about Alexis? Do you feel anything with her?"
As I tried to connect with Alexis, I quickly told them what I felt. "I can't get a good read on her. It's like there's something blocking me. As soon as I get the feeling I'm connected, it's gone. Like something pushed me away."
Myron encouraged "Tell us anything you can, Mel."
"Okay, but it's not much. I think she's hurt. Or maybe pretending to be. It's faint, but it feels like it's because she's really weak. I can't explain it. I'm sorry."
Garrett said "You're doing just fine, Melanie. Keep going. Tell us whatever you can."
"I feel surrounded, outnumbered. She's really scared. But not for her for us. ... Damn it. ... It's like I just hit a wall or something. I can't feel anything. It's like ... Oh, God! ..." I snapped my eyes open and stared at them. "I think she's dead!"
Myron calmly said "She can't be, Mel. She can't die, literally. Her body won't let her. She's probably just unconscious. You know she can't die. You know her memories."
Garrett agreed "Yeah. She's too strong for death. Remember the day she brought you and Charlotte back? You were both dead. She took two deaths and got up the next day like nothing ever happened. She'll be fine, Mel."
I nodded and said "She has to be."
