it was really pouring, so mack and i did whatever rainy day activity we could think of. we played board games and card games, most of which she won. we did karaoke off of youtube, and for some reason she though i was a really good singer. we played with rudy, my dog. i then pulled out my pencils and markers, grabbed some paper, and we drew while listening to p!atd by her request.
"wow, will, that's really good," mack said, looking up after a while. "you're really talented."
"thanks," i replied, looking up as well. "i've uh, taken some art classes around."
"is there a certain thing you're really good at?" she asked, putting her pencil down.
"um, i guess i'm ok at portraits. that's what i've been told, anyway."
     "draw me."
     "w-what?"
     "draw me."
she slid me a new piece of paper, and put hers aside. she watched intently and smiled. 'death of a bachelor' came on at that moment and she began mouthing the words along with brendon urie.
it's always been easy for me to draw portraits of people, which is why i had no idea why this was so hard. i didn't want to mess this up, i just want the drawing to be as beautiful as her.
     you're being cliche again, will.
     yeah i fucking know.
about fifteen minutes later, i was done. we had gone through several p!atd songs, all of which mack had sang along to.
"holy shit," mack remarked when i showed her the final project. "you weren't kidding."
     "do- do you like it?"
"like it?!" she exclaimed, jumping up, "it's fabulous, i love it!"
just as she finished, 'hallelujah' came over the speaker.
"aww yisssss, i fucking love this song!" mack blurted. "'all you sinners stand up, sing hallelujah'," she shouted, dancing around. she danced like i wasn't even there. she danced like she was the only one on the face of the earth. and it was beautiful.
"c'mon, will, you can dance, can't you?" she asked.
      "actually, no i can't," i replied, laughing. "i am not a dancer."
"oh, stop, it's easy," she said pulling me up.
"really, i-" but i couldn't finish because she took my hand and tried to get me to join in her crazy adorable groove. so i danced, too. and there we were, dancing in my basement on a rainy sunday morning, with a dog running around, having a good time. crazy how something like this could happen to someone like me.
the song ended, and we both plopped down on the couch, out of breath.
"see," she said, between pants, "you can dance."
      i laughed. "so i can."
"oh jeez, it's like almost noon," mack said. "and to be completely honest, i am craving some cookies." she stood up and grabbed her bag. "well," she said, "aren't you coming?"
"i guess i am," i said, and followed her up the stairs and out the door.
