Katie and the police arrived at the house where she was held hostage for five years. Police kicked down the front door only to discover that the house had been abandoned. Police then started searching the area, but little did they know, the kidnapper had already fled the area. The search went on all week, night and day, they looked and looked but came up empty.
One day a man was walking his dog along a lonely, quiet street and made a wrong turn off his route and noticed something in a bush. A closer look revealed, a dead body. The man then called the police and the area was soon filled with police cars. The body was taken to a crime lab for analyzes.
The young girl was shot six times in the head, and bitten around her chest area. The killer left enough saliva for D.N.A testing. The following day police received a phone call from a witness claiming to have seen a black pickup truck speeding away from an abandoned road, lucky for police the woman wrote down the license plate number of the strange truck. The truck was later discovered to be registered to Mr. Kevin Morris, he was taken in and was later a match to the saliva D.N.A and was charged with kidnapping and murder. Later police discovered that Mrs.Heller Kemp was involved with the crime and was picked up by police,
After five years Katie was reunited with her family once again. But as for Kayla her bright smile and beautiful face will always be remembered. Katie still has nightmares about that house and never wandered alone again. Kayla's father hung himself in depression after loosing both his wife and child. The neightbourhood gathered around the Smith's house every Sunday to sing, pray and to keep the legacy of little Kayla alive.
