Chapter 1
-----------------------
~Dean's POV~
"Sammy's hurt." Katelyn shook her head as she talked slowly. Her accent made the words jumble around in my head.
"What do you mean?" I asked, sounding more rough then usual.
"I don't know how to explain it Dean; he just. He's so sad-I just. I don't think I can fix it this time. He needs you."
"He doesn't need me for shit. He even said it himself. H-he wouldn't save me." I hesitated. But it was true and she knew it.
"Dean, for Christ's sake. You know he loves you. He's your brother. At one point he's all you've had. He has to. Stop being such a child and get your ass in there!" Katelyn was worried and I knew I was being immature. I couldn't help it though, I've put my life on the line for him so many times and he's repaid me with nothing. I didn't understand. Shit, where's Cas when I need him?
"Fine.. But don't expect me to fix anything." I tried to walk past her but Katelyn stopped me by grabbing my hand. She looked up at me.
"I need you to understand that he didn't mean any of that.. I didn't have to convince him to let you come in or anything. He wants your help, Dean. I'm serious." Katelyn squeezed my hand tightly with her smaller one. Her crystal clear blue eyes pierced into my soul. I knew she meant every word she said so I nodded and walked into Sam and Katelyn's shared hotel room.
I took in my surroundings; clothes on either side of the twin bed, a portable record player sat on the night stand with a medium stack of records on the floor next to it, a small table with two chairs was across from the bed, Sammy sat in one. Head bowed arms resting on the table, his fingers were intertwined behind his head. Sam didn't even flinch when we walked in. He's broke; I knew it was coming too. He hasn't been the same in days. His smile disappeared quickly after laughing at some cheesy joke Katelyn said. His normally vibrant green eyes were a dull forest green now.
"Sammy?" I called to him, approaching the table slowly. No response. I sat down carefully looking to Katelyn as she sat down on the edge of the bed, clearly distraught she ran a hand through her dark brown wavy hair. She locked eyes with me and nodded for approval.
"Are you okay, man?" I tried to look at his face and all I saw were tears streaming down his face.
"No." Sam mumbled.
"Can you tell me what's wrong?"
"It's all useless." He looked up as he spoke, red rimmed eyes met mine. Causing me to almost cry at the sight. I couldn't stand him being broken like this.
"What do you mean, Sammy?"
"Everything. This life, I just want something normal. We're either hunting or being hunted, Dean. How does that not bother you?"
"You don't think I don't want a normal life? You don't think that I don't want to move to some shit apartment with Cas? Maybe start a family? Sam, that's all I want out of life. I know you want to move to a house with Katelyn, I know you want a family. You'd be an amazing dad. She'd be a great mom trust me. But it's something that we can't have. We can't help it-" My eyes teared up at the thought of a normal life with Cas. It'd be great.
"But-" Sam tried to interject.
"But nothing." Katelyn said from across the room, she beat me to it.
"Sam you know all of this, you can't beat yourself up babe. You know that all any hunter wants is a normal life. We can't have it. Some of us were born into it and some were thrusted into it without a choice.. No matter what situation, we want out." Katelyn walked over while talking, her voice more apologetic and soothing than normal. When she reached Sam she rubbed his back as more tears spilled onto his cheeks.
