Koda's POV

Something is wrong and I feel it as soon as my father, our best trackers and I step off the reservation and into town. Extreme pain tares through my body catching me off guard and causing me to fall to my knees and howl out.

"Son what's wrong?" My father ask kneeling next to me.

I clutch my stomach struggling to breath. "I don't know. It hurts so bad, but at the same time, it doesn't." I say forcing myself to stand.

"It's the pain of your mate. She's hurt." Markus, our head tracker says and I see a sad look in his eyes. He has felt this before. The night his mate was killed by hunters.

"We need to find her. Now!" I say and take off running. I'm not sure where I'm going but, I feel the pull of her, the connection we have drawing me to my beautiful mate. I weave through the streets, down rows and rows of shops till i get to a small suburban neighborhood, not caring that I'm running into people and causing a scene.

Then it hits me. Her scent. But it's off, it's weak almost not there at all and it's mixed with the smell of blood. And it's everywhere her scent, like she's been camping out in this neighborhood for a while. Clearing my head of the fog her scent caused I notice the crowed of people standing in front of me huddled around something, or should I say someone.

"Son! Wait where are you going?" My father yells coming up behind me, panting a little from trying to keep up with my fast pace.

"I have to go see what they are all looking at." I tell him not ever turning around. Because I know deep in my being what they are all looking at and I feel like if I turn away it'll turn out to not be real, and she'll be gone again.

Reaching the crowd I see her, laying on the side walk with a young girl kneeling next to her with karas head in her lap, in tears, it doesn't look like she's breathing. "Kara?" I whisper and people turn to look at me.

"You know her?" The young girl ask sniffling.

"That's my ma....girlfriend." I nod and push through people to kneel with the young girl. Carefully I reach under her shoulders and behind her knees lifting her into my arms. "Did anyone call the ambulance?" I ask. No one answers. "You idiots. Where is the closest hospital?" I yell at the crowd.

"Fifth and main. I'll come with you." The girl who was on the ground with my mate says.

I nod and turn to see my father pulling a car around. "Get in son! And hurry." I don't have time to worry about where he got it or how. All I can worry about right now is saving Kara.

I climb in with Kara on my lap and the girl slides in next to me and before the door is even all the way closed my father is off.

"Umm excuse me." The girl says tapping my shoulder.

"Yes?"

"I uh I'm assuming you know this, but your girlfriend, she uh." She stops struggling for the right words. "She isn't human."

I see my fathers eyes dart to me through the rear view mirror. "What do you mean?" I ask. Even thought I already know. But this girl, this human girl can't know because if she does that means trouble for all of us.

"Well a few weeks ago Calla, I uh mean Kara came into the pound as a stray. I met her the first day she was there and fell in love and i convinced my family to adopt her. Well recently she had been acting kind of weird and I thought she was sick. But as soon as I mentioned the vet she perked up so I decided to take her to the dog park. On our way there a large stray tried attacking me and she protected me. But she was hurt and when she passed out she turned human. Your girlfriend is a werewolf." She says her eyes huge and scared looking.

I look back up front and see my dad isn't even looking back at me anymore. "What is your name?"

"Annabelle." She says wiping the tears out of here eyes.

"Son we can't trust her not to tell. She needs to come home with us. And stay there." I hear my father say through our mind link.

"Father she is a young girl. We can't just take her away from her family! She needs to go home." I snap back at him.

"She knows far to much son. And if she slips up even once it could get the whole pack killed. I'm sorry but this isn't up for discussion."

"So you want to act like the vampire now? Kidnapping children?"

"Don't you dare compare me to those disgusting creatures. This is completely different."

I roll my eyes and close the link. "Okay Annabelle. Who do you have at home? Who lives with you?" I ask trying to not let my anger seep into my voice and scare her even more than she already is.

"My mom, dad and baby brother. Why?" She ask

Taking a deep breath I look her in the eyes. "Annabelle I'm going to need you to come with us, back to our reservation. We will drop you back off at you house long enough for you to pack some belongings and write a simple letter saying goodbye but you can't stay here anymore. You know too much."

"What no! This is my home, my life! I can't just leave. I'm only sixteen, I have school and friends and a job and college. I swear I won't tell anyone please!" She begs and begins to cry again.

"I'm sorry Annabelle but it's just too big of a risk." I say feeling the pain in my chest watching how sad this little girl is and it's all because of me.

"We promise to keep you safe, protected and we will do all we can to accommodate you." My father says finally speaking.

She says nothing and turns to look out the window as we drive to the hospital, which luckily had a few members from our pack working there. But in her reflection in the glass I can see tears running down her face, and I don't know why but it completely breaks my heart seeing this human girl so upset.

~~~~~~~~~~~Two  Days Later~~~~~
Kara's POV
I wake to a blinding white light above me, causing instant pain to shoot through my head. I reach up and cover my eyes with my hands to try and block out some of the light.  But I realize I'm holding my face with my human hands and quickly sit up in bed ignoring all the pain through out my body.
Looking around panicked I see I'm in a hospital room, and I'm connected to about a billion machines. I quickly reach over ripping the the IVs out of my arm, the clamp off my finger and the weird sticky pads off my chest.
Standing on my shaky legs I walk to the corner of the room where I see some clothes lying on a table.  I slip off my hospital gown and begin to put on the yoga pants just as the door opens and in walks Koda carrying a large cup of what smells like black coffee with about eight expresso shots.
"Kara! What are you doing! You shouldn't be out of bed." He says rushing over to me not even realizing I'm naked. "You have to lay back down, you need to rest." He says picking up a blanket off the couch and rapping me in it before guiding me back over to the bed and making me sit down.
"Why am I here? How long have I been here? How did you find me? Where is Annabelle?" I shoot questions at him needing answers.
"Do you remember how you got to be with Annabelle and her family?" He ask ignoring my questions.
"Yes. I was picked up in my wolf form and was taken to the pound where I met my girl. Now answer my questions."
"You're here because you became so weak from being your wolf for so long your body completely shut down, and it didn't help when you were attacked by that dog. You've been here for about two days, I found you with the help of my trackers from my pack and our connection and Annabelle is down in the cafe with my father."
"Why is she still here? Shouldn't she be home? Where do her parents think she is? Where do they think I am?" I asked panicked realizing that depending how much people know could mean I'll end up in prison or worse, on a lab table.
"Shh calm down." Koda says gripping my hand and holding it tightly. "I will explain everything soon. But right now we need to call the doctor in to check you out and clear so we can go home." He says smiling at me.
"Home?" I ask confused.
"Yes. Home."
