Christmas at the Burrow usually felt all too short to Harry. It was usually a time where he felt completely carefree. It was as if all his problems stayed at Hogwarts, allowing him to fully enjoy more time with -in his opinion- the best wizarding family in the world. This year, however, was different. He couldn't stop thinking about how he was going to explain to Dumbledore that he failed him; something Harry felt like he already somehow knew.

When Harry finally found himself on the Hogwarts Express it felt as though a year had passed since he had last been on it. He had seen Malfoy while looking for an empty compartment, both of them looking away quickly upon seeing the other boy, acting as though he were invisible.

Whispers followed Harry as he walked to his seat at Gryffindor table that night at dinner. Word had spread like wildfire about drunken Harry wandering the corridors looking for Draco who eventually found him and locked the two of them in a classroom.

Naturally, when nobody knows the truth about a situation, they make up rumors. Ginny told him that she overheard a Ravenclaw girl swearing that she overheard the two of them making plans to run away together to 'escape from a disapproving world'. Of course, neither boy was going to open up about what truly happened, so they let the rumors spiral.

Monday evening at dinner Harry saw Professor Mason walking towards him with an unamused look on her face. "Tardiness is one thing, Mr. Potter, but not attending class altogether is an entirely different story."

"Malfoy didn't show up either, so what good would me g-"

"Mr. Malfoy was one of the first students to show up this evening, and when asked, said that he had no idea why it was that you did not show up."

"Wait, he showed up?" Harry asked, unable to hide the excitement mixed in with the confusion of his voice.

"As did every other student in the class besides yourself."

"I'm sorry Professor, I won't let it happen again."

"This is strike one, Mr. Potter. One more and you will be given detention. Talk to Mr. Malfoy, he will fill you in on this week's assignment."

When she was gone, Ron and Hermione looked at Harry with a confused look he felt sure he shared.

"Didn't you say that he was dropping the class?" Ron asked, dumbfounded.

"I though he was. At least that's what he told me he was doing."

"And you're sure he didn't say anything about changing his mind the other night?" Hermione piqued.

"I wasn't that drunk, Hermione, I would have remembered something like that, don't you think?"

"So he just decided to show up without telling you?"

"Did we just have two different conversations with Professor Mason?" Harry asked irritably. "I just heard the same thing you did."

"Oi," Ron said in defense of his girlfriend.

Harry sighed, "I'm sorry Mione, I'm just..." His eyes trailed to where Draco was sat, eating with his head down. "Confused"

"That makes three of us," she commented before dropping the subject.

"What do you want, Potter?" Draco quipped Tuesday morning as Harry pulled him aside after breakfast.

"After all your bullshit you show up to class without so much as telling me. Why?" Harry asked him angrily.

"I just couldn't imagine life without my love," he said in a sickly sweet tone that made Harry grimace.

"Enough jokes, Malfoy. You were so hellbent on not showing up only to make me look like a fool for being the only one not to do so. What changed your mind?"

"Maybe that's why I didn't tell you, maybe it's not," Draco said casually.

"You son of a-"

"And as to what changed my mind, that, Potter, I can happily say is none of you business."

"The Goblet made it my business when it paired us together for this class."

"It has nothing to do with the class and everything to do with my personal life, in which we are not paired together, so once again, it is none of your business." He said the last four through a clenched jaw and gritted teeth.

After a stressful few moments of silent glaring, Harry finally spoke up. "Mason said you would tell me what it is we have to do this week."

"Meet me in our booth tomorrow night and I'll tell you then," Draco replied, turning around and walking away.

"What time?" Harry asked his retreating back.

Without so much as looking over his shoulder, Draco responded. "I'll show up when I do." He left Harry even more confused than he was before.

So, this chapter is still short, but I hope it is a lot better than whatever the word vomit that used to be this chapter was. I am so sorry for that; I should have just put out an authors note saying that I would update when I had an actual chapter written. If there ever is a next time, I'll do just that.
