Vanessa knew a little about lacrosse. Regan dragged them to his games, claiming that he would finally "play" but it turned out that he sat on the bench the whole time. The game never entertained her. Well, no sport really did that for her.
She didn't know why this practice was any different that made her actually watch. Maybe, it was Liam. When that thought went into her mind, she quickly shook it off. It was probably seeing if he was okay most of the time. For the captain of the team, he wasn't doing well. Was it not his day?
The goalie wasn't doing well either. He could barely catch a ball in his net. She was unsure who was that was but hopefully he got some practice in before the season started. After looking up at her book for a moment, he even fell over. Vanessa knew some about being goalie. Some days during the summer, she would help Regan practice.
Deciding to do something better than reading, she stood up and walked onto the field. Many took notice in her action. She walked up to the goalie, as she got a closer look she found it to be Corey, Mason's boyfriend who also belonged to her Creative Writing class.
"Hey, Corey," she smiled, "Need help?"
He shook his head, "No, no, I'm fine."
After a second, he took his answer back, "Yes, yes, I need major help."
"You just got to focus on the direction of the ball," she told him, "Not on his swinging. Also maybe come out more, it can get you closer distance from you and the person is scoring."
She could see Corey, smiling through his helmet.
"Excuse me," a voice said with annoyance.
Vanessa turned around to see the boy take off his helmet. Liam kept his on. The boy was Brett. He wasn't in any of her classes but his sister was in her creative writing. She was nice but annoyed her at times with her bragging about her brother. Vanessa noticed his tall posterior and his dark, brunette hair sticking up.
"We are trying to practice."
"And I'm trying to help our team get better," she responded, walking forward to him as she had her hands on her hips.
"I don't care."
"You don't care if we lose because some asshole like yourself only thinks of himself and doesn't help his team," she put her chin up.
He smirked, "I always make the goals."
"Well, what about Liam?" she grinned back, glancing behind her at Liam.
He stepped closer with a chuckle, "Have you watched him? He has been sucking."
"Because you haven't let him do his thing."
"That's kind of the plan," Brett laughed, "I'm the defender."
"Yeah but you haven't helped him in anyway to get better. I thought being on a team is like having a family."
"No way," Brett chuckled.
Vanessa sighed, "Well, someone didn't religiously watch High School Musical when they were little."
"Singing and dancing while playing a sport isn't very realistic."
Vanessa smirked, "You bet on that?"
She still held her grin as she grabbed his lacrosse stick from him. Vanessa picked up the ball and placed it in the net of the stick. She turned around, facing the goal. Vanessa was regretting this when she started skipping and twirling as she sang the lyrics of "Get Your Head in the Game". Once she got closer to the goal, she threw the ball into the goal. Corey didn't listen but she understood. It took awhile to get use to the tips. She did see him step forward a little. Vanessa cartwheeled towards Brett.
