How to Lose Shann in 10 Days

Chapter 6: Day Three

"I called you the other day when I got off from work and Kyle said you weren't home yet," Jenna looked at me accusingly as she flopped on my bed. "He said you were still out...with Jake? Seriously, with Jake?"

"Well...sort of. That's the least of it." I replied.

"Reall? Care telling me the details?" She raised her perfectly arched brows. "I'm your bestfriend you know." she said in this this-better-be-good tone.

I took a deep breath and leaned on my elbows. "Jake was a jerk-"

"That I already know," she interrupted slyly. "Why does your brother hang out with him?"

"Well, Jake kind of tags along and he and Shann haven't had the heart to tell him to get lost." I explained."But not after this episode with me."

"Why, what really happened?"

Just then I heard the front door opened and I heard Shann's voice. He's with Kyle! Tonight was the party. I have to tell Jenna fast.

My cheeks grew hot. How do you explain the feeling you get when someone you've known all your life started giving you these kind of feelings that you barely knew at all? I wasn't sure how top explain it.It was like Shann was a brand new person. 

I related her the episode with Jake. "Well luckily, Shann saw me and drove me home."

"And?" Jenna prompted.

"Well...he flirted with me. Then Kyle got upset about Jake.!"

"Kyle was a hothead" Jenna said dreamily. "But a lovable one." she murmured.

I noticed that. Did she has a thing for my brother?

"He made this ridiculous rule that all his friends-including Shann -are off limits to me."

Jenna's mouth dropped open. "Kyle passed a family law stating you can't date his friends?"

I nodded. "In front of Shann!"

"Does that also means, he can't date your friends?"

"I didn't ask-I was so mad-"

"But you are not going to let that stand in the way with Shann, right?" she pressed."I knew it, lately something is different in the air around you and Shann. I've told you that already."

I sigh. "So you're coming with us to Cindy's party?"

"Yeah and I will make a graceful exit, leaving you time to be alone with Shann." she teased.

"How about Kyle?"

Jenna stood up and checked her hair in the mirror. "Leave everything to me."

Music swelled out of Cindy's open front window. Hgh school kids lingered on the lawn. It looked as the entire junior class was here. As soon as we got inside, Kyle and Shann shrugged at each other, scanning people's faces.

"Come on Kyle, I'll introduce you to some people." Jenna said leading him through the haze of cigarette smoke and mounds of cracked plastic drinking cups. I chewed my lips. Her plan to get me alone with Shann was already underway. Shann shifted his weight from one leg to another, checking out the party scene.

"Are you bored?" I asked nervously.

He smiled down at me." You're here, so how could I possibly be bored?"

I fought back the excitement bubbling inside me.

Outside the patio served as an excellent dance floor. Shann guided me there. 

He looked deep in my eyes and said to my ears. "Will you dance with me?"
