Every single Spanish class Lance gets to sit at the back of the class, writing whatever he wants in Spanish while listening to music. For me however, it's different. I have to sit at the front, confused out of my mind on what these words say and how I say them. I want to learn the language but it's just so hard.

"Lance." I said, slamming my Spanish book on the table. Lance took one earphone out, put his pen down and looked at me. "I need you to teach me Spanish." I said, quieter. Lance stared at me blankly.

"No." He said and he put the earphone back in. I yanked one out.

"Please." I breathed.

"Why should I?" Lance asked me. I didn't know if I should make an excuse or tell the truth.

"Because I don't want to fail this class." I said. Lance started to laugh slightly. "What? What?" I asked loudly.

"I thought you were some sort of uncaring weirdo who didn't care about grades." He said. I looked blankly at him, waiting for him to finish his little laughing fit.

"Please Lance." I asked once he had quietened down a bit. Lance opened his mouth but didn't have time to say anything as the teacher came in and asked everyone to sit down.

I sat down on my chair at the front after a walk across the classroom. "Everyone open your textbooks to page 41." The teacher said. Unlike Lance, Spanish wasn't her first language. She  almost always wore her dirty blonde hair in a high bun on her head which she usually stored pencils in. Her black lined glasses were thin, typical librarian glasses. Her skin was pale and clear of blemishes under the thin layer of makeup. She always wore dark, formal clothing with high heeled shoes. Mrs Valorway was her name, she married young at the age of 25.

Mrs Valorway walked towards Lance after glancing at me. She spoke to him in Spanish tongue quietly so I couldn't hear. Lance stood up, picked up his books and walked towards the front of the classroom. He pulled out the chair next to me and sat in it. I turned to him. "Is there a reason you moved?" I asked.

"No. I wanted to sit next to an antisocial emo kid who probably spends his time trying to teach himself guitar in his room alone." Lance said in a cocky way then smiled at me.

"Quit the sarcasm Lance." I retaliated blankly. Lance chuckled for a second.

"Mr Valorway wants me to help you with Spanish so I guess you didn't even need to ask me for help."

"Um...well okay." I replied, accepting the help I was being offered, opening the textbook.

Once again, these words confused me. Mrs Valorway stopped talking and I just hit my head on the table. "I see why you need help." Lance said to me in a calm way which was surprising for the Cuban hothead. I sat up and looked at him. Lance pointed to a speech bubble on the book. "Now what does that say?" He asked. I looked at the words and tried my best to pronounce them.

"Mi nombre-"

"No no no. Don't say nombre with an American accent." Lance cut me off. He repeated the word nombre with his native, Cuban accent. "It's a lot softer than you think." He smiled I looked back at the bubble.

"Mi nombre es Amy y tengo un hermano-"

"Maybe I should give you an example by saying it myself." Lance said with a sigh. "Mi nombre es Amy y tengo un hermano más joven." He said. I couldn't even understand it because he spoke so fast and fluently.
