"5, 4, 3, 2, 1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, MAY GOD BLESS YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU." I shouted at the top of my voice as I was so excited to surprise her which she definitely was. First she opened the door and when she saw me standing in front of her at freaking 12 in the night she was more alarmed than surprised. But then I started to jump around her in circles and wished her birthday like everybody used to do when they were kids, she was like okay, that this man is not as creepy and mad as he looks. "First of all, I need an explanation from you that what were you doing standing in front of my hotel room with your PJ's at 12 in the night and why did you almost scared me to death?" She was hell furious. "First of all, welcome. Second, Anushka take a chill-pill. I traveled across the globe just to wish you on your birthday and at least you can take this nicely. It's your birthday today, have fun, walk around.. And then the most unexpected thing happened, she hugged me. It was a very warm, comfy type of hug, like it said that it meant a lot to her that I came, she was so happy to see etc., etc. I also thought of hugging her back but then it will become awkward for her which she will not appreciate. "I am sorry, I didn't mean to. I just wanted to have a friend beside me right now, so..." "Hey it's okay." I said while putting my finger on her lips. "I am here for you, you don't have to apologise for hugging me. Can I hug you?" I asked her while looking into her eyes. She nodded and pulled me into a hug. Ring, ring, ring, ring. The phone. Ughh, I hate technology even more now.
"Sorry, kept you waiting." "Who was it?" "My family, friends, journalists, directors, producers, actors and many more. I have lost count on all of them." "So my P.R. called you?" She asked questionably. "No, I called her up. I remember the day when you told me that how big fan she was of mine, so a little helped and I was given all the answers." I winked at her. "She told me that you don't like this day as much as the others, how can you not, it's your birthday, dude." "Many bad memories are attached to this day." She went near the bed and pulled the pillow closer to her. "No need to tell me." I wish she could. "No, I want to. Come, sit." We both sat down on the bed.
"2 years back, it was the night of my birthday. The wind was blowing, the light was dark and there were not many people on the street. It was the same time, 12 in the night. I and my best friend were out for a drink. She never used to drink but for me, that night, she did. She wanted me to enjoy my birthday and have fun. And then, we were going back home. I told her that I will drive but she was so drunk to even listen to me. That time, I did not paid much heed to her because I knew that she was a pro in driving. The music was loud and so was her voice. She was not looking in front of the road and I was cautiously telling her to. A truck came with full speed, the driver was also drunk. Clash. Our vehicles clashed and so did their lives. The truck was on fire but we were still safe. Her belt got jammed, I was free to go. But I was not willing to leave her. I called out to her, she said, "Go and run. I will be safe. I will try out something, it's your birthday today." She winked at me while giving an assuring smile that everything will be fine. I jumped from the car because I knew that when she says that she will find some way out, she does. I prayed to god, crossed my fingers, there were tears in my eyes. BOMB. The car was on fire and these were her last words, "It's your birthday today."
Oh my god. This girl has gone through so much in her life but what I am seeing in front of me is a strong, independent woman who can bring smile to anybody's face and when she looked at me after finishing her story, she asked for a promise. "Don't ever again say that it's my birthday today. I can't let anybody else life be put in danger because of me. I can't, I just can't." And then she broke in tears.
"Hey, come here, come here." I asked her to come near me and pulled her in a tight, bear hug. "You don't have to cry for what you haven't done. It was not your fault. It was just an accident. That doesn't mean that you will stop loving yourself and not celebrate your birthday." "I am too tired to even think about all these things. Can I just sleep in your arms, please?" She asked while making a puppy face. "Yeah, sure." I pulled her closer and closer. GOODNIGHT, MY PRINCESS.
