VOLUME 5: Prologue: What it means to live

Kids who have been called as such by their parents, how would they grow up?

Hiragi Mahiru approached the demon, and striked up a conversation.

"Neh."

"............"

"Neh you."

"............"

"Lift up your head. Let me see your face."

However, the youth did not lift his head, or reply to her. He sat in the darkness, hugging his knees.

However, she didn't seem to mind, and without any worry, continued speaking.

"Neh."

"............"

"Neh you."

"............"

"Neh, Yuu-kun."

"............"

"Amane Yuichiro-kun, lift up your head."

No doubt, she called out the name of the boy.

Yuichiro.

At whatever time, or facing whoever, children should grow up to be the most『Gentle**』-- It is due to this reasoning that such a name was given.

(T/N: ** The Japanese word for 'gentle' and the first character of Yuu's name is the same. Sort of a pun/ wordplay.)

But there is a huge contradiction.

Regardless of who he meets, he would be gentle with them-- with that sort of thinking, it is impossible to survive in this world.

If he is gentle with someone, he would end up hurting them.

If there was a guy who could treat everyone and everything with gentleness, then he must be a god of some kind.

At least, for humans, it is impossible.

Rather, it is something unnecessary.

Mahiru called out to the boy.

"Yuu-kun"

"............"

"Yuu-kun, did you hear me?"

After that, for the first time,

"......eh"

The boy had a reaction.

"Eh?"

Mahiru asked, and Yuu opened his mouth.

"You're noisy. Stop talking to me."

She smiled.

"Aha, this is not a good answer."

"Argh! You're so noisy! Stop talking to me already!"

Yuu raged.

But his voice was bleak.

Of course.

Not too long ago, his parents tried to kill him.

Demon.

Demon son.

Demon son that must be killed.

His parents said this, as they prepared to kill Yuu.

Clearly the have gotten money from the《Hyakuya Sect》and gave Yuu away as experimental material--something to do with world peace or things like that?
