Kaiden's P.O.V.

When people hear the word "cancer" the first thing that comes to their head is automatically death.

That's not always the case though.

"Mom I'm scared." I whispered quietly as we waited in the doctors office. The doctor still hadn't come back with the test results yet, and I was nervous as to why it was taking so long.

"Kaiden, no matter what that doctor says, everything will be okay. I promise." My mother spoke firmly as she held my hand. She tried to look tough for me, but I could see the worry in her eyes.

After what seemed like forever, I heard the door knob turn and the tall, lanky doctor cautiously walked in. His expression was blank and I couldn't tell if the news was bad or good. As he took a seat across from me, I gripped tighter on my moms hand until my knuckles turned white.

Mr. Simms I think his name was, looked at his clipboard and then back at my mother and I.

He cleared his throat. "So you said you had abdominal and chest pain, coughing, and trouble breathing. Correct?"

I nodded.

"Okay well the scan showed that your lymph nodes in your neck are swollen. All the signs are there. I'm sorry to say the you have Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which is a common cancer in kids."

Time stopped and I stared at the wall in front of me.

Cancer.

I have cancer. I couldn't even think straight. I immediately thought the worst and assumed that I would now start the road to my death.

"Kaiden," the doctor spoke gently breaking me out of my terrible thoughts.

"I don't want you to start thinking the worst. This doesn't mean you are going to die anytime soon I assure you. Cancer doesn't mean death like everyone thinks. You just need the right doctors and treatment, and I promise we will find that for you." He spoke with a reassuring tone and smiled at me.

"In non-Hodgkin lymphoma, there is malignant growth of specific types of lymphocytes, a kind of white blood cell that collects in the lymph nodes. To treat this we will probably put you in a hospital and start chemotherapy. We will try our absolute best to cure your cancer so you can stay a normal teenage girl." Dr. Simms said while smiling.

I nodded and processed all this in my brain while my mother discussed other details with him.

I still couldn't believe I had cancer, but Dr. Simms made it pretty clear that not all cancer patients die like you think.

All I know is that my world just completely flipped upside down.

Authors note: Hey guys. I know that was short but I felt that was how the first chapter needed to go to get the story started. I promise the others will be longer. I just wanted to say that this is not a story that basically copies the Fault in Our Stars. Yeah the main character has cancer, but thats not all. It will have many ups and downs that makes the story beautiful. Please let me me know what you think in the comments Xx -Jaid
