Chapter One
Lily waited patiently for the elevetor to take her to the 1030th floor, the day had been long and school even longer. All she really wanted right now was a relaxing bath to take her mind off the events that had unfolded during lunch. As an observer rather than a participator the thought of having the guy you'd liked for three years come up to you and ask you to the next school dance was mortifying and Lily had been, well, mortified when Chad Davis had done exactly that.
Lily had collected her perfectly sized portion of today's lunch, beef stew, and made her way over to her table at the edge of the room. She'd pulled out her favourite book and had started reading when a small cough caused her to look up. She blinked in surprise at the sight of Chad standing there with his plate of food and blushed slightly when he smiled at her, feeling the butterflies in her stomach wirling, Lily pushed her plate away, the thought of eating suddenly making her queasy. "Can I sit?" Chad questioned, indicating with his head the spot next to her, Lily nodded not trusting her voice to be able to make a sound. After he sat and began eating, she buried her head in her book once again but instead of looking at the page her eyes had found themselves drifting over to look at Chad, after about 10 seconds of this he swallowed then looked at her, "you may have guessed that I came over here for a purpose other than to eat next to you," he grinned at her, "what I really came over for was to ask you if you wanted to go to the dance with me on Saturday?" a bunch of wolf-whistles broke out from Chad's freinds who had strategically placed themsleves on the table closest to Lily's so they could hear every word. Lily burned bright red and looked down at the table, "y-you are asking me out?" she stuttered, still shocked but he just grinned again and nodded, "if this isn't a joke then sure, I'd love to!" Lily smiled, gaining confidence, "I'll see you later but right now I have to go" she stood up and walked off casting the occasional glance backwards to see Chad watching her every time.
Once out of the eating hall Lily collapsed against the wall shaking her head, still confused as to how a guy like Chad knew she even exsisted. Looking back on the events of lunch she groaned, now officially mortified by the fact that Chad's freinds were sure to spread the word about what had happened over lunch and by the end of today everyone would know. Opening her eyes, Lily made the decision to try even harder to blend in for the rest of day to aviod the gossip. She made it to her first class and knew that she'd be safe for the rest of the day.
