Adrien and Nathanael have been letting small hints to their relationship slip, by accident, but some people were starting to understand what was happening. Alya was the first to suspect something, she said something to Marinette and Nino, but they didn't really think her theory was true because everyone was sure that Adrien was very straight. After they worked out that there probably wasn't anything happening between Nathanael and Adrien, Alya thought about how there was probably nothing happening, but still left the concept in the back of her mind.
Marinette started noticing little things between Nathanael and Adrien that made her realize there was a large possibility they they were, like Alya thought, in a secret relationship. She talked to Alya about it for a bit and they both deduced that it was likely because of the body language the two males had around each other. Even though they had thought about it with each other, they decided not to talk to Nathanael and Adrien about it.
Marinette and Alya would pay attention to subtle hints that Nathanael and Adrien were in a relationship together, making Marinette slowly get over her crush on Adrien realizing that he most likely had a crush on the redhead.
