disclaimer : Dan and Phil are not my "original characters", they are real people who I do not own. Anything in this story that happened in real life and is not known to the open public (e.g. Dan and Phil's private lives) is merely a coincidence

"Dan, get up! It's your first day of primary school, aren't you exited?" Dan opened his eyes cautiously, looking up at his mum's overjoyed face. He blinked then sat up.

"Come on. You'll be late, go ahead and put your uniform on and get ready, I'll make breakfast." Dan nodded mutely and watched as his mum walked out of his room and closed the door.

If he were to look back on this later, he probably would have realized that any mum probably shouldn't be leaving her 6 year-old to get ready for primary school by themselves. But at least Dan was a "big boy" and was responsible enough to not run around scribbling all over the walls of his bedroom with a crayon.

He stretched his arms over his head, got out from underneath his covers, and promptly walked out the door through which his mum only recently left. He shuffled across the hall towards the washroom to brush his teeth.

As he stepped in front of the mirror, a slight wave of nervousness washed over the 6 year-old.

"What if they don't like me? What if they think I'm weird?" Basic questions swarmed through his head as he prepared himself for what he thought would change his life completely.

He brushed his teeth, got dressed in his school uniform, and headed downstairs to eat breakfast which consisted of eggs and toast. Dan silently ate through his breakfast and thought about what he was going to do about making friends in school.

He had friends who lived in the same town as him, though none of them were going to the same school as Dan. He had met them through his mum, and frankly, he was probably only their friend for his mum's sake. The parents of Dan's friends were close friends of his mum, according to her.

He finished his breakfast and ran upstairs to get his book bag so he could finally get on his way to school.

The car ride was uneventful, Dan noted, and soon enough their car was parked in the parking lot of his primary school.

Dan gripped his mum's hand as she led him into the main building and walked him to his classroom.

His mum led him in the room and Dan looked around nervously at his new classmates. They seemed nice, through no one seemed to notice his presence as he walked into the room. His mum squeezed his hand and smiled at him,

"It'll be fine, Dan. You'll make friends"

She nearly ruffled his hair but Dan pulled away at the last moment in slight embarrassment. His mum laughed and went off to talk to Dan's teacher and left him to find a seat with nice looking people.

He found a table near the back of the room where a boy and a girl sat and decided that they were worthy table mates.

"Hi! I'm Dan, what's your name?"

The girl looked up at him in interest and smiled,

"I'm Wendy, nice ta meet 'chya!"

The boy then looked up at Dan,
"I'm Tyrone" he said quietly, quickly looking down at his hands again.

"Wanna sit with us?" Wendy offered, looking curiously at Dan's Pooh backpack. He nodded and sat down in an empty chair and from across the room, his mum watched as what was to be a life-long friendship was born.
