School ended without any incident, my headache didn’t return even so, I got a ride with my best friend Claudia Cumberbatch. We’d been friends since second grade. I honestly couldn’t remember a time when we weren’t friends. Claudia was the overachiever in the relationship, and usually dragged me along for the ride on her Crusade of the week. She’s the only one I told anything to, about what had been going on with me for the last couple of months.
Claudia looked at me then back at the road. It was the rainy season so it was coming down in buckets. There was a wheather advisory for all of Tucson and the surrounding areas. Flash flood warnings and all that jazz. “You okay, you look really pail, clammy, and generally like crap” she stated. Another thing about Claudia she’s blunt and to the point about everything. “Thank you that’s just what I need to hear right now” I said with as much sarcasm as I could muster, but it just ended up coming out whiny. “Sorry I didn’t mean it like that, but seriously are you okay”? I thought about it for a moment “I’ll be fine. I just need to meditate, have some more tonic then I’ll be good”.
Claudia didn’t leave until I opened the door and walked in to the house. It took me almost twenty minutes until I found the rest of the tonic my mom had made last week then, It took me five minutes to figure out how to open the tonic bottle. After I took it an aftershock hit me and what was left went on the floor Shattering the bottle then I promptly slipped and fell on my butt, cutting my hands in the process. “Damn it” I muttered in frustration. By the time I was done cleaning everything up and bandaged myself properly I was ready to flop on my bed and vegetate for the rest of the day. But alas my phone beeped. “ugh… hello”? I said miserably. “Honey is everything okay, you don’t sound all that well” came my moms concerned voice. “Yeah mom I’m fine, just a little headache is all”. “Oh honey was it a bad one, do you want me to come home”? “No I’m fine I’ll just be asleep when u get home anyway. Plus the store needs you right now” I said trying to sound a little better. It must of worked because she told me to get some rest and she’d pick something up for dinner on her way home.
I don’t really remember falling asleep, but I do remember the dream. It wasn’t a normal dream because I could feel, taste, hear, see, and smell everything in great detail like I was really there wherever there was. The wind was cold on my face as I flu through the sky dodging clouds as I went. I could feel the others behind me trying to get my attention, but I was to lost in my exhilaration. I folded my wings to my sides tilting slightly to the right and spiraled through the air like a airplane in a dogfight. It was as if the air currents were bending to my will giving me an extra boost. The feeling was intoxicating. I had never known such freedom and yet I felt like I was meant to be there. As I flu I watched the scenery change instead of vast desert land it began to be peppered with houses and other signs of civilization. Small towns gave way to a large and spread-out city. Which was good because it was getting dark and I knew the younglings were unease flying in the dark, so we set down on a tall building in a small biasness district.
“Asher how many times do I have to tell you to stay with the flock” came my dads stern voice. Wait I thought to myself my name isn’t Asher it’s Lena and that guy isn’t my dad, but at the same time I was thinking gods not this again, and some how I knew that wasn’t my thought. “Sorry dad, wasn’t thinking” my dad no I mean Asher’s (gods this was confusing) walked over “you must be more mindful we have these rules for a reason. You can’t just go off and leave your post, you left some of our materials open for an attack”. I suppressed an eye-role saying “Sorry I couldn’t help myself”. “Just don’t do it again” he said and walked away to help some of the maternals with a couple of kids that were wrestling. I walked to the edge of the building and looked down. Below were people and cars bustling around no doubt trying to get home. “Asher” came someone’s shout. I turned hands shoved into my chest I lost my footing and plummeted to the ground. The last thing I saw was Luke’s face smiling at me as I plummeted to my death.
