I heard a knock at the door but didn't answer. I was too busy cutting up my arms. At this point I don't even try to tell myself to stop. It's the only feeling of pain I like. Because I know I can make it stop.
Midnight is still knocking on my door but harder. She must be mad. She's probably going to tell me I shouldn't have been listening to their conversation. Maybe she'll make me wake up early and do strenuous training.
I heard the door come down and felt her pounding footsteps coming towards me.
She looked at me, eyes wide.
"What?!" I yelled at her,"You surprised your fuck up for a son, cuts himself?!"
I covered my ears. I didn't want to her what she had to say.
"Y'all will never love me and I don't even understand what I did wrong! Why did y'all even have me? Why don't y'all just kill me and put me out of my misery?!"
She didn't speak. Her emotions were hidden well. She just sat in front of me on the floor. Her eyes were cold as she looked at my wrist. Because I had her healing powers, my cuts healed almost as soon as I cut them.
"What?!" I asked as she continued to stare at me,"What do you want from me?!"
"I...Astrid, I..." I looked at her, waiting for her to say, I love you.
"I want you to know that...you-you'll be training extra hard tomorrow. In fact, you'll be training your ass off all week!"
I should have known she wasn't going to say it.
She got up and snatched the razor away from me,"Suicide is for cowards." She glared at me so hard that I froze for a few seconds. But then I felt myself power up the courage to say, "Who's Opal, Alexandria and Tulio?"
She stopped walking.
"Why do you and dad talk about them so much?"
"...They were people we once knew."
"But-"
"I'm not talking about them anymore, Astrid."
"But-"
"Drop it."
"Mom-"
She turned quickly on her heal. She grabbed my collar and slammed me into the bathroom wall,"Don't call me that! EVER!"
Her face now soaked with tears as she let me drop to the floor,"Don't you ever say their names!"
Father came rushing in seconds later. He grabbed my mother and held her in his big arms. I heard him tell her it's be ok. He called her love and darling. She wrapped her arms around him and I saw a small smile on her face as she told him she was ok. It was the first time I saw them do anything remotely human to each other.
But sadly, the look of their soft side was short lived.
