"Wake up you guys!" Mrs Cruz sang as she threw open Ali's bedroom door.
I was sleeping on the floor right next to Ali's pink zebra striped queen size bed. I could've slept in it, but she's had a bad habit of kicking in her sleep ever since I've known her. One summer our families spent the week in a beach house; me and her in one room, Trevor in another, her mom and step dad in one room, and my dad and sister in the last. Worse mistake of my life. I got knocked to the cold Wood hardboard flooring I can't even count how many times.
"We gotta be at the hospital in 45 minutes so you only got like 15 minutes to get ready, so hurry." she told us.
"Ugh! Mom!" Ali screamed, putting her pillow over her face to block the light from the window Mrs Cruz had just opened.
Shes not much of an early riser. I got up and got dressed and brushed my teeth and hair. By then Ali had at least gotten out of bed and was on her phone.
"You better not be talking to Jackson." I said to her.
"Oh um Im not." she said quickly flipping shut her phone. We then both went downstairs.
"You guys dont even have time to eat mom said. We gotta go get in the car now." Trevor informed us.
"You're coming Trevor?" I asked surprised. He didnt seem like the kind of guy that would care and want to come.
"Of course Im coming. This is my niece or nephew after all." he said.
Ali smiled. "Well lets go then."
Me and Alison got in back, Trevor up front and we were on our way to the doctors.
After about 25 minutes we were there. Mrs Cruz went to check in while me, Ali and Trevor sat down.
"Hey look," Ali said pointing to the tv. "Saturday morning cartoons. Remember those?"
"Oh youre gonna be remembering them real soon." I told her.
"Haha yea." she laughed. Then she looked around and saw a little boy, probably about a year old, crawling around.
"I cant believe Im going to have one of those." she looked kind of nervous.
"You'll be alright Ali." I comforted her. "You got me and your family if you need anything."
I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and gave her a hug.
She smiled again. "Yeah youre right. Thanks again Brit. I dont know how i wouldve told my mom without you."
"Hey thats what friends are for. To help eachother out. And make fun of eachother. Now what the hells up with those socks?!" I joked with her, looking down at the orange striped one on her left foot and neon green one with blue flowers on her right.
"Hey. I had like 2 minutes to get ready!"
"Miss Morrison?" a blonde lady in a purple Tweety Bird scrub yelled out from behind a closed door.
"Well thats you." I said.
"Oh really?" she said sarcastically as we stood up.
She did all that normal stuff you do at a doctors before you go in a room, blood pressure, weight, height.
Then we sat down in a big empty white room surrounded by informational posters about diseases and stuff.
After about 20 minutes the doctor walked in. At first he looked at Mrs Cruz.
"Miss Morrison?" he said confused looking around at all three of us girls. Me, Trevor and Mrs Cruz all pointed to Ali who was sitting on the bed.
He did all of the tests and stuff he needed to do before finally coming back 40 minutes after we originally got in the room.
Why did doctors take so long?
"Miss Morrison. I am proud to tell you that your children are perfectly healthy." the doctor reported as we all smiled.
"Wait wait wait!" Mrs Cruz stood up, wide eyed, waving her arms. "Children?"
"Yes. Your daughter will be having twins."
We all looked around at eachother surprised yet happy.
"And they will now give you an ultra sound so you can found out their sexes are."
"Twins?" Ali asked again in a surprised voice after the doctor had walked out.
About 5 minutes later the nurse walked in, interrupting all us girls crying of excitement.
Trevor, being a guy, just smiled happily the whole time without much to say.
The nurse walked in with a big machine that had a screen in the front of it. She then rubbed some jelly on Ali's stomach and started rolling what looked like some kind of a game console joystick around.
"So were you hoping for them to be both boys? Both girls? One of each?" the nurse asked looking up at Ali.
"I wasnt hoping for anything specific." I don't think she was hoping for anything. Besides the doctor saying she wasn't really pregnant, or waking up from this nightmare.
"Well you'll be having a boy and girl." the nurse told us. "Now you guys can leave but be sure to stop by the front desk and schedule your next appointment. With twins it is double important you come back regulary because its easier for something to happen to twins. Especially at the young age you are." and she walked out.
"Twins!" Mrs Cruz kept repeating as we walk out to the car. "My baby is having twins!"
"Yes mom! Alison is having twins. We know. The whole hospital should get it by now. Be quiet!" Trevor angrily told her.
"Well you know what Trevor Lynn Morrison? You can tell me to shut up when your baby girl is pregnant with twins at 14!" she yelled at him and stomped off, leaving us alone in the parking garage.
"Yeah...so about the mall..." I said just to stop the silence between me and Ali. Trevor was in front of us mumbling under his breathe.
"Stupid ass bitch. I didnt even do anything. Never even said shut up."
That was the thing about Trevor. He was a really quite guy. Unless he needed to not be. Or unless someone pissed him off.
"He wouldnt have minded her yelling at him," Ali was saying to no one imparticular "but when someone uses his middle name, he goes off. He hates it."
"I can, uh, I, I can tell." I said, looking up from the gravel parking lot engraved with numbers below us, um to the tall, lengthy, clean cut boy that was my best friends brother.
"Moms gonna forgive him and apologize when he gets to the car, but hes not gonna drop it. Then shes gonna be mad. And your not gonna get your dress." Ali started to cry. Thats right, women are very emotional while pregnant. "God Britany! Im sorry! I never should have told you anything and dragged you into all this! Now your very first date with your very first boyfriend is gonna be ruined all because of me!" Trevor had heard her and turned around, but by the time she finished she took off down the parking garage in the other direction.
"Alison!" Me and Trevor both yelled in unison. We both took off after her. Me playing softball and him football made us both pretty fast runners so we both got to her and stopped her.
"Ali!" I yelled, out of breathe, "Stop it! Dont blame yourself for any of this! The last thing you need to do is be stressed! Thats just gonna cause problems for Haley and Nathan!" I reminded her of the names she had choosen the night before. "I really dont care about that dance or anything with Garret if your not gonna be ok. Id ditch him any day for you. And if he cant accept that, hes not worthy enough to be my boyfriend."
"Aw Brit, you dont gotta ditch him for me. My moms buying you a dress. Your going to homecoming with Garret. You guys are gonna kiss during a slow dance. And your gonna like it.' she smiled and wipe away her tears. "This is just so much for me to deal with. I don't mean to worry everyone else." She looked up at Trevor saying this.
"Yeah, sorry Britany. I dont wanna ruin your whole first dance thing. Ill stop. Come on guys," Trevor then motioned "moms pulling the van up."
We all got in the car and drove off to the mall.
