"He's dead! He's dead! Listen to me! He's dead!" The woman screamed, running through the crowded streets. No one looked at her though, they all continued walking to wherever they were going. "Please! Please listen to me! He's dead!"
Tears streamed down her face as she ran, she didn't care if the emotions show. Not anymore. Not after hiding behind a perfect mask for her whole life. No, she would stand out, she would make them see that their system doesn't work, that they are wrong. They only needed to listen.
"Look at me!" she tried again, her voice scratchy from screaming, "Please! Just look at me!" It was no use, no one stepped out of line here, not when there was so much to lose.
It wasn't long now, they would come for her. She could hear their drums, the slow beat matched the rhythm of her heart.
"Are you just going to let them take me away! Do you know what they'll do to me?"
She spun in a circle, looking for anyone who looked even the tiniest bit distressed. No one. Everyone was looking forward; the only sounds were the shuffling of feet and her distressed sobs. Giving up, she dropped to her knees, her face in her hands as she cried for her curse was real, and it wouldn't stop. She could feel feet marching towards her, then hands shoving her upwards and away from the mindless crowd.
"Your system doesn't work!" she yelled, not for her own benefit, not anymore. But for theirs, "You are dooming yourselves."
"Quiet lady." Said one of the men holding her.
Then she felt a sharp pain on the back of her head. And then darkness.
...
In another reality, a woman awoke. Her breaths heavy and uneven. She looked down at her hands, the same hands, she was the same person as before. Looking closer at her hands she saw a black ring on each middle finger, and in the centre, was a small green light. Curious, she leaned over to inspect it.
"Facial recognition confirmed." She jumped at the voice, looking for someone who might've spoken. Before she could finish looking around, a light emerged over her palm. Coming from her ring. Her face shone in the light of the technology. She would enjoy herself here.
For the next few months she fit in. She lived in her own spotlight. She forgot what she knew was about to come, the horror that awaited her. She didn't talk to anyone, never used her voice. She only communicated using the black rings on her hands. They became the center of her world, everything she did was connected to them.
It was like heaven to her. She felt as if nothing could go wrong, the quiet before the storm.
But the curse always came back to haunt her.
...
"Help! Someone help!" the woman screamed, her throat raw from disuse. The street was crowded but no one looked her way, they were all too focused on their individual lives.
"Help! They're after me! Help!" she could feel herself falling to pieces. Not again not again not again, "Please, please, please! Don't leave me alone please!"
She sobbed, and sobbed, and sobbed. But no one looked her way. No one would see her. See her misery. Her pain.
"Please," she whispered to herself, "Please, don't let it happen again."
She had once been the centre of all attention, the victim of everyone's eyes. But now she was ignored, that was her curse.
Men came and grabbed her. Started pulling her away, but she was already fading into darkness.
And she was gone
...
In another reality, a woman awoke. Her breaths laboured. She held her hands up, they were the same. She looked from side to side, her eyes distressed.
A pant cut through the silence.
Then another.
Then,
"HELP!"
(Changed a bit so it made more sense)
