Ethan told the cab driver Grayson's address, and a few minutes later, the yellow vehicle was pulling into the driveway of a grey brick house with a double car garage and tall trees in the front yard.
"We'll be right back." Ethan told the driver, so he wouldn't drive away. Ethan and Nina got out of the taxi, and grabbed their suitcases. They walked around a black car that was parked in the driveway. Ethan assumed it was the babysitter's car.
Ethan and Nina walked to the front door, and rang the doorbell. A moment later, a girl with curly black hair pulled into a pony and glasses was opening the door.
"You must be Ethan. Grayson told me you were coming." The girl said. She looked no older than seventeen.
"Yeah, that's me. You must be.." Ethan trailed off, realizing he didn't know her name. He didn't even know his neice's name.
"Tiana. Come on in, Maddi's just in the living room."
The babysitter, Tiana, stepped out of the way for Ethan and Nina. They walked inside, and set their suitcases against the closest wall. Tiana waited for them to take their shoes off, before leading them into the living room.
A young girl with shoulder length brown hair and hazel eyes was sitting on a grey and black patterned carpet, planning with some toys.
"She looks so much like grayson." Ethan whispered to Nina. Maddi looked up from her toys as Ethan walked closer.
"Hey, Maddi. I'm Ethan, your dad's brother." Ethan said, crouching down in front of the young girl. She stared at Ethan before standing up, and walking across the room. She came back with a picture frame in her hand that had been on the TV stand.
"Is this you?" Maddi asked, showing Ethan the picture. It was the two boys at their high school graduation, both wearing the mandatory cap and gown, and large smiles.
"Yeah, that's me." Ethan replied, smiling." Your dad wanted me to come pick you up, and take you to the hospital. Your younger sibling is gonna be born soon."
"Really? Okay!" Maddi set the picture down on the couch and ran to the front door. She had her shoes on before Ethan and Nina could even get to the door.
"Are you excited to meet your baby brother or sister?" Ethan asked, chuckling. Maddi nodded, and grinned. As Ethan bent down to pick up his shoes, Maddi ran over to him. she threw her small arms around him.
"Thanks for coming, Uncle Ethan." She said softly. Ethan looked up at Nina, and smiled.
"You're welcome, kiddo." He replied. Maddi let go, allowing him to stand up. Ethan and Nina both slid their shoes on, and Ethan turned to face Tiana.
"I'm sorry for cutting into your job like this." He told her.
Tiana shook her head. "That's alright. Family's more important than me making a bit of extra cash." She replied. She slid her shoes on and followed Nina, Ethan, and Maddi out the door. Tiana got into her car while Nina and Ethan went to get into the taxi. Ethan helped Maddi inside, before getting in.
"Don't I need a car seat?" Maddi asked.
"Shoot." Ethan muttered under his breath. "It should be okay, just...stay still I guess."
Ethan pulled the seatbelt down so it wasn't so close to her neck, and kept his arm around her shoulders.
