{Reese's POV}
--A few seconds after Steve's announcement about our, ahem, partnership, he got a text from Coulson to say that they'd got a sighting of Loki in London, near a place where the plutonium signatures where extremely high. It baffled me how he got to London from Germany in under half an hour, but I suppose anything is possible when you're a god.
'Let's go,' the super soldier stood up, leading us to the jet. Natasha and Clint scrambled into the cockpit and within seconds it was in the air, before I'd even had the chance to sit down and strap myself in.
Not every member of the team had come - Steve, Natasha, Tony, Clint and I were en route to London. Meanwhile, Wanda was heading for Germany and Thor and Bruce were staying at SHIELD to keep an eye out for any signals of movement from Loki.
I took the empty seat at the back of the jet next to Steve. He raised his brows at me and nodded as a hello, and then turned his attention back to staring out the window.
'How long do you think this will take?' I ask. 'Like, the whole...mission, I suppose.'
'It could end today, it could take two weeks. You can never tell with these things.' He replied.
'I suppose. I'll need to sort out a new apartment, you saw what happened to the last place.'
'With all due respect,' I teased. 'It was a bit of a tip before a Demigod blew it up.
'I lived off of money I nicked from bad guys, so anything with more than three hundred square feet was out of my price range.'
'New York was much cheaper back in the forties.'
'You ever miss those times?'
'I do, yeah.' He nodded. 'But with that said, these times aren't so bad.'
It was weird to think that I'd read all these newspaper articles about this guy, the hero of World War Two and the man out of time - and then I threw him into a jet plane. Funny how things work out.

{Steve's POV}
--
I wasn't exactly thrilled to get Reese as my partner - for one, I'd never have a partner before and SHIELD were simply using the word as a replacement for 'baby sitter'. With that said, she didn't appear to be quite as bad as her father thus far. We were all curious to know what exactly made her hate him so much, but at the same time I figured it wasn't any of my business.Reese fell asleep part way through the journey to London - she was a vigilante after all and therefore probably didn't get much sleep.
It was weird seeing her silent, after so many hours of arguments and sarcastic comments. She was so small compared to me, but so extremely powerful. And murderous.
And I had to babysit her.
We landed in London an hour or so after we took off - the Quintjet was very, very fast. Natasha and Clint landed us in a field just under a mile from where Loki's base was supposed to be. I knew we were all skeptical, because it was Reese that told us about this after all.
As soon as the bay doors opened, everyone was scrambling to their feet and grabbing the first weapon they saw - bows, guns, knives. Reese, being a Stark, took one of everything. She stayed in the back of the group as we walked across the muddy field. Our target was an old windmill in the middle of the meadows - it looked picturesque, aside from the blue glow emitting from it.
'Incoming!' Tony, who was circling the mill in his suit yelled. It took a few seconds but soon enough a group of Chitauri aliens were charging at us.
'You sure you can handle this, Angeles?' Barton asked Reese, readying his bow.
She didn't even look at him as she sprinted at an alien, wrapping her hand around its throat and slamming it into the ground. 'Pretty sure.'
Like I said, murderous.
There was maybe fifteen or so aliens - half of them were thrown backwards by Reese and a movement of her arms. She sprinted ahead of us, took out three more with a gun and the final five with another movement of her hands.
'Well, I wasn't expecting...that.' Natasha stopped, raising her brows as the new team member turned to face us.
'What are you standing around for? We have stuff to do!' She called, before running towards the windmill. Even though Tony hadn't raised her, it was quite obvious they were related.
I sprinted to catch up with her, readying my SHIELD as we moved closer towards the windmill. I could tell the team were shaken by the re-appearance of the Chitauri - none of us had seen a living one since Manhattan. Nobody spoke about it out loud, but I could tell we were all discomforted.
Except our newest addition, who didn't seem phased in the slightest.
'Forgive me,' I spoke in a hushed tone, stopping her in her tracks. 'But how are you not freaked out by what you just saw?'
'Maybe I am freaked out, and maybe I'm just good at hiding it.' Reese replied, pulling her gun from its holster. We all took covered positions around the door, whilst Tony powered up his thrusters.
'If you see Loki, grab him.' I began the orders. 'If he's not there, arrest the humans. Kill the Chitauri, and then we bring in whoever we have to SHIELD.'
Tony blew the door off and I charged in first, the team in tow. The room was a simple, circular shape. There was a huge machine in the middle surrounded by workers, all of whom were protected by a Chitauri per man. I couldn't give a specific number, but there was about sixteen of each.
Our entrance was hardly the most subtle, meaning the battle commenced as soon as we step foot in there. Natasha and Clint took to the men, whilst Tony headed for the machine, leaving the Chitauri for me and Reese.
She was straight on them, punching and kicking and shooting them. They were flung around the room and smashed into walls, their alien brains blown out and their metal bones broken.
'She's like a hurricane,' I heard Tony murmur, and for once in my life, I actually agreed with him.
