"Jo? Are you sleeping?" Mel whispered-screamed across the hotel room we were sharing.

"No, what is it?" I said slightly irritated. I had been trying to sleep for the past hour or so. But my mind was working overtime.

"You wanted to tell me something, remember? Earlier today, when we were on the set." Mel tried again.

I knew I wouldn't be able to dodge that conversation. Mel had an incredibly good memory. She wouldn't forget what I had told her a few hours ago.

"Now? I'm trying to sleep!" I faked a sleepy voice.

"Okay. We can talk about it tomorrow on the flight back home."

"Sure. Goodnight, Mel."

I didn't wanna leave. I knew I had to but something pulled me back. Or someone!

I sighed and banned all thoughts from my mind in order to finally get a couple hours sleep.

"So you say there was something going on between you and Zayn, did I hear you right?" Melody asked for the twentieth time in a row.

"I didn't say there definitely was, I said I had a funny feeling when we did our test shot together."

"And he was the only quiet one that day you met the boys?" She pressed on.

"Yes. But I don't see how that matters."

"Oh, it matters. It matters A LOT!" Mel continued.

"Listen, it's not like I'll ever see him again. So why don't we just drop it. And never mention it again."

"What? No way! I bet he feels the same way about you. You have to call him." She insisted.

"Yes. I'll get E.T. on it first thing tomorrow!"

"You don't have their numbers?"

"Mel! I was on a job. Not looking for my next ex boyfriend!" I retorted.

At that moment someone knocked on the door and I motioned for Mel to zip it. Whoever it was, they didn't need to know about this!

"Mom! It's you!" I said in a pitchy tone.

"Yes, honey, who did you expect? Oh, I didn't knew you were having company. Hi Melody, how are you?"

"Fine, Mrs. Smith! And you?" Mel's voice was pitchy too. Hopefully my mom won't get suspicious.

"Good, darling. Thanks for asking!"

I rolled my eyes at my mother. I knew she thought I was ignoring her. I was just so damn busy, for God's sake.

"Mom? Is there something you wanted to tell me?" I slowly walked towards her.

"Oh, yes. I completely forgot. I'm having a party on Saturday. I expect you to attend. A lot of important people will be there."

"But, mom!" I cried out.

"No but. You have a week to reschedule any appointments. I'll see you there."

She gave me a hug and a kiss and left. I turned around to see Mel brooding over something. I knew she thought I was distant towards my mother. I had told her so myself. It was just how me and mother were. I also knew when my mom said she'd see my at the party that that was going to be the next time I'd see her. Mel knew too. She would always make such a big deal out of it. Whenever I was at her place she'd make sure her mom was around and taking care of us. I guess she just wanted me to see how a mother-daughter relationship should be like. But nothing my mom and I ever did was normal.
