Mila

I went out the back door of the house and went through the woods to the training grounds. The  only building Grandmother Hilda convinced Alpha Malik to create.

Only about twenty people were there and each of them were sparing. Walking past each group I pretend to not notice how each of them look at me like I was a bug, when I pass bye them.

In a small clearing to the side of the field lay a sandbag. The sandbag was supposed to be hanging from the tree five feet away. Frowning I look at the sandbag to see paper sticking out of it.

Not surprised to see the note I open it and look at another the note. Each and every other note that came before, had the outlined message "Leave this pack... You are not welcome here..."

Each time I get one, I think of Leon my own cousin who agrees with every note I get. Thankfully there was one person we'll didn't think that way.

Grandma Hilda, from the moment I came to her home she welcomed me with opened armed. She made me a home. She was a beacon I couldn't help but falling for.

Each time I saw her she would say "Soon everyone will see that you are part of this pack and Irreplaceable."

Smiling to myself I trained a good hour and a half, before walking back to the house. Just outside the front door, I heard the talking of two men.

Opening the door, I see Leon with current beta Rusk Drake. Rusk gave me a friendly smile, but Leon wore a scowl instead of his blank expression he would always show me.

Rusk was about to speak when Leon interrupted him saying "You can't seriously ask her to have her do this." I looked from one to another till Rusk finally spoke.

"We have no choice Leon, if we don't do what they say think of what they would do to the pack." Leon was about to speak once again, but I stopped him before he could speak the first word asking. "What is this about a choice?"

Leon only stormed out the door shifting mid-step into a black wolf to race through the forest. Turning back to Rusk, I looking at him till he spoke.

Rusk gestured to Grandmother Hilda's couch and as I sat he started to explain from the beginning.

Rusk told me of the demand the pack to the North (mountain claws) had. The demand was that seven unmated female wolfs be to find their mate in its pack, to strengthen and create a alliance.

Confused how it could do anything with myself I ask, but before the words left my lips Rusk said "Mila you are one of the chosen wolves to go."

In shock I look at him waiting for him to say "Got you! Happy April fools! You fell for it!" Rusk said nothing. I looked into his eyes and I saw he meant what he said. His black eyes never left mine till I asked "when do I leave?" The answer I was given was the day after your sixteenth birthday.

The days passed in a blur. It was normal, nothing happened I didn't even get a note telling me what someone thought of me. The days just led to my birthday and sooner then I knew it the day was here.

Getting out of bed dressing in my normal sweats, blue shirt, and hat I find Leon looking at me with mixed feelings all over his face. The next thing I knew he had me in a bear hug not letting me go.

Shocked and awkward I hug him gingerly. Not truly understanding why he would hug me. That hole day I didn't know why every person in the pack gave me a hug. I found out the next day when I was told to meet with six others all female wolfs at the ages of 17 through 21.

We walked to meet the men that came so they can bring us to the Mountain Claw pack when the men acted weird. The smell of alcohol all over them made me gag.
