All night long I had nightmares of how I would die. Knives, arrows, infection, axes, spears, animals, everything.
And each time I woke up crying. Or screaming. Or both. I don't want to die. I don't want to have to put my family through what happened with my brother. I will fight.
After eating breakfast, I had to quickly shower and go down to meet Gage. The whole way, Lad kept smirking at me and all I could do was stare. Will he really kill me?
Stay away from Lad. Stay away from everyone.
"Here, put this on," Gage said. I was given a pair of athletic leggings and a tank top that was like my training one, but with out my district number. I had a light jacket on and Gage just put my hair in two braids
"Probably something with moderate weather. Like the forest or something like that," Gage guessed.
"I hope so," I mumbled.
"5 minutes," I heard a robotic type voice say through an intercom. Bring the anxiety.
I began to breathe heavily and my palms started to sweat.
"I can't do this," I whispered to Gage. "I don't want to die," I sighed.
"Here, here. I want you to have this," Gage said while dropping something in my palm. I looked down to see a little locket in my hand.
"I want you to remember this. If you are ever scared, just think of this. Don't get too caught up in this little show. Stick to the basics. Food, shelter, water, and protection. Wait for people to come to you and stay strong. I have hope for you" Gage said.
"Thank you," I said. I grabbed Gage into a hug and rested my head on his shoulder. I can't do this.
"10 seconds," The voice said again.
I nodded at Gage and made my way over to the tube that would lift me into the arena. I ran my hand along the glass and stepped inside. I soon as I stepped foot into the tube, a glass sliding door shut around me and I began to panic.
No escape now.
I let a tear fall down my face as I was being lifted up.
"I'm OK," I whispered to myself. No I'm not.
I covered my eyes as the sun shone into my face and then lifted my hand as it became clearer. I saw tributes all around me, ready to pounce. I looked at the cornucopia and see back packs, spears, a bow, ropes, axes, and knives, Gulp.
"11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4..." The man counted down.
The rest happened in a blur. The tributes sprinted off of their pedestals while I was still stationed on mine. I looked and saw Lad staring right at me. He had a knife in his hand and that propelled me to take off. I sprinted towards the cornucopia and headed straight for a back pack and a bow. As I was running, I grabbed a sheath of arrows and loaded my bow. I pulled the arrow back and it flew into someone's shoulder. They were injured, but I knew it would take more to actually kill them. I ran towards the forest and never looked back.
After a while, my legs grew tired and I found a resting spot. I'm so glad I survived that. Wait. I survived!
I looked through the back pack to find some rope, matches, a water bottle, a tarp, sleeping bag, and one bandage. Wow, thanks...
My stomach then growled, interrupting my thinking so I stood up and walked around, looking around for some sort of animal. After a minute, I heard rustling and slowly turned to my left. There on the ground was a squirrel. Not my first choice, but I needed to eat. I raised my bow and then shot the squirrel in the side. I ran to it and then walked back to my spot. I started a little fire and then cooked the squirrel after I skinned it. That seemed to settle my roaring stomach so after I put the fire out, I looked for a tree and then climbed a medium sized one. I laid the tarp over the limb of the tree and then tied myself in. It was kind of hot, so I unzipped my jacket.
Wow... This was boring. Is it bad that I actually wish I was having a show down right now? Yeah, call me weird, but it's actually really boring waiting and waiting in a forest.

When I woke up, it was dark out, but I was wide awake.
Crunch, crunch.
I shot up because that sounded like foot steps. I looked around and at the ground. My eyes widened as I came across the source of the noise.
Right there was Lad. He looked all around and even up at me. Thank god it was dark because it seemed he didn't see me. He wandered around for a while before climbing a tree that was a few down from mine.
I stared at him for a while to make sure he wasn't looking at me, but was interrupted by music from the Capital. I looked up at the sky and saw that the tributes from 5 were dead, a girl from 10, another girl from 3, and a boy from 8. 19 left.
"She's not dead..." I heard Lad mutter.
Who is she?
