Chapter 2
“Papa, where are you? You’re cheating if you hide in the long grass,
you know. Where are you, Papa?” squealed little D’Audrey.
“Papa must be cheating”, she said as she walked. “I’ll find him s-aahh!”, she tripped over a stone.
“Stupid stone. What in the world is –ohh!”
She found herself staring into the large, beady eyes of an Arabian Stallion foal.
“Do you like him?”, a deep voice asked.
“Oh Papa, I love him! But what shall we name him?”
“How about....Daniel?”
“Oh yes, Papa”, and she ran into the arms of a man of medium build with blue, trusting eyes and a huge smile.
“Well then, how about we have a sword-fighting practice?”
“All right, Papa. But could we go horse riding after that?”
“Very well. It’s time you learn it, anyway.”
“Thank you, Papa”, said young D’Audrey.
“All right then.....remove your sword and en garde !”
Years passed by and D’Audrey grew up in the footsteps of her father. While other girls cooked and fetched water and gossiped, D’Audrey fought with swords, rode Daniel and shot arrows. But as years passed, so did D’Audrey’s father grow older and weaker. Rumors spread of an attack on their village. Little did D’Audrey know that these rumors were to come true.

One late winter’s night, as D’Audrey curled herself up, she was awakened by loud cries of ‘Run, Run, the soldiers are here!’ She dashed off to her father’s room but found him missing. She hardly had time to think, when a black cape fell on her and she was carried away.
After a lot of bumping, D’Audrey found herself in a cave. She looked over to her right and found her father holding his chest and embedded deep in his chest was......
“An arrow! Oh Papa, they’ve shot you!” cried D’Audrey.
“Yes darling, I don’t have much, cough, time”, he moaned.
“Papa, wait here. I-I know just the m-medicine.”
“Listen, dear”, he coughed “I don’t have much time. Now, listen, do you know why I’ve trained you all your life?”
She sadly nodded her head.
“G-go to Faris and f-find t-t-the K-k-kadketkeers. T-take D-d-daniel
and g-g-go!”
And his head fell lifelessly back into D’Audrey’s lap. She cried over him, remembering everything they did together. She gently closed his eyes and took a spade and went out crying.
Daniel never liked to see his mistress cry. He neighed and stomped his hoof while she placed her father down and filled it up. She placed a solitary bluebell, her father’s favourite flower.
“Come on, Daniel. We have a journey to go on.”
“Neigh?”
“To where? To Faris. To find them.”
