I gasped as I slapped the book shut. There was no damn way! I made my way to the bedroom, tripping over the coffee table, the steps... When I got back to my room, I was sweating despite the short run. My heart was racing and I was pale. I tried my hardest to calm down but to no avail. I was about to take a shower when my mother knocked on the door.

"Shit, shit, shit!" I cursed under my breath. I ran to my bed and pulled the blankets away. No, hiding the book under the sheets would be dumb. Placing it casually on the desk would not do either. Out of options, I shoved the book into the nearest drawer I could find. "Joshua, are you in there?" I could hear my mother calling from outside my bedroom door. I quickly wiped the beads of sweat on my forehead away before opening the door. I put on my biggest smile (though you could tell it was fake from a mile away) as I greeted her.

"Can I come in?" she asked, peering past the doorframe to see her son's bedroom. It was hella of a mess after I tried finding a place to hide the book. I nodded, opening the door wider to let her lithe figure inside. When she was inside, I checked the hallways to see if Jess or Dad was around the corner. Much to my relief, they weren't. I slammed the door shut. She sat on my desk while I on the bed. The tension in the room was palpable.

"So I heard that your fur is changing colors all of a sudden. What's up with that? When..." Mom drifted off her sentence, a look of concern etched on her wrinkled face. I sighed, looking anywhere in but at her. I hated making my mother feel this way.

"It isn't that bad, I'm going to get the results tomorrow," I replied, my voice shaking slightly. Mom crossed her arms and shook her head. "Joshua, you used to tell me everything when you were a pup," I wince at her statement. "What happened?"

I shrug my shoulders casually, but I felt like there was a heavy weight on them. "Never mind. Just go to sleep," Mom says before leaving and slamming the door shut. The loud noise made me jump out of my skin. I crawled out of bed to take a shower. Once I was fully dressed in my red nightwear, I tucked myself into bed.

I turned off the lights. I stared at the ceiling for a while, thinking of the events that have occurred earlier. I laid there and pondered for a moment. After a while, I still did not feel drowsy. In fact, I felt like I had just taken a shot of espresso.

"Screw it," I muttered, turning the lights back on. I went to the drawer where I hid the book. I read through it again.

Information about the Wild Winds Pack

History

The Wild Winds are one of the most powerful packs in the mountainous areas of South Germany. However, before they came into power, the pack was formed in the most unusual of circumstances.

The founder of the Wild Winds was the noble Chase. He was the second-in-command of his previous pack. Despite his high ranking, Alpha Chase never had a say in the way his previous pack was being led. Alphas in Chase's previous pack abused and killed any member of the pack, whether Omega or Beta, if they could not perform up to their standards. Any member that threatened the leader of their pack was disposed of as well. This made Alpha Chase upset. He left the pack to form a better one where all were equals. It took him about three years to locate a forest clearing somewhere in South Germany to form the Wild Winds. At that point in time, he had invited other lone wolves to join him in his quest to find freedom. Surprisingly, each lone wolf had a special ability or two that caused each of them to get kicked out of their own pack.

Once the Wild Winds established themselves as a pack, Alpha Chase became the first leader. Alpha Chase instructed all his members to claim as much land as possible, find as much food to feed everyone and build safe homes for residents to stay in. Alpha Chase's efforts into making the Wild Winds this powerful will never be forgotten.
